#OTD 1894 The Alleyn Club @OA_Association met at The Criterion in Piccadilly Circus for dinner. In those days they met 4 times a year, the Spring, Autumn and Christmas meetings were informal, while the Summer dinner was the official Annual Dinner, now held in November.
The Raymond Chandler prize books we bought from @DoyleNewYork have just arrived. Chandler won the prizes while at school @DulwichCollege 1900-1905. Their condition suggests he read them & that they moved around the world with him.
#OTD 1686 William Cartwright Jr. (or the younger), died. He was an actor like his father, but due to the Civil War & Commonwealth turned himself into a book & picture dealer. He left his collection to @DulwichCollege, the paintings are @DulwichGallery.
The Winter 2024 issue of @DulwichSociety journal arrived today with fascinating articles on women and politics from Suffragettes to present day, Dulwich Court Farm, headgear from Everitt W. Vero and the new stained glass in St Stephen's Church among many other pieces.
