3 years ago, unimaginable tragedy came on this leader. He focused intensely on the needs of the families, players and others directly impacted, even though he also felt the impact deeply. Where was he 2 weeks ago? Once again, in the courthouse quietly using his presence as comfort.

2 years ago, he ended a season with confidence that a winning structure was being built, while his critics with short memories impatiently demanded “win now!”

1 year ago, as he was labeled a “DEI hire”, he took solace in one of his favorite verses:

“The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.””

3 months ago, as some predicted a 5 win season or worse and wished that UVA could make bold hires like UNC, he embarked on a mission of being 1-0 each week.

Last night, while he received the congrats of fans, in his heart it was all about 1-15-41, their families, Mike Hollins, Marlee Morgan and the entire UVA community. Because this man is a true servant leader!
