Today’s the day! Happy 50th Birthday Metro! 🎉5️⃣0️⃣🎉 To celebrate, here’s my model of the 50 Years of Metro wrap revealed yesterday! Can’t wait for the celebrations downtown on @wmata today!
@GreatLaya@wmata Got very lucky with the 1976 one. The 2026 manual was given out at the 50th Anniversary ride back in March. Not sure if they'll have more copies at the pop-up shop or other 50th events in June.
Metro Owner’s Manual 50 years apart!
Here’s an original @wmata “Owner’s Manual” which was a promotional insert in the Washington Star from March 1976 compared to the 2026 50th Anniversary Edition! The 1976 future map is pretty close, minus the Silver Line.
Both of these manuals are viewable on WMATA’s website if you want to read through them!

Visited the @smithsonian American History Museum to see the new @wmata “Access the Revolution” display! So on point with the Metro iconography that there’s a sign informing visitors it’s not a real Metro station!
To celebrate the launch of the new https://t.co/vgo7W29K6A today, let's take a look back at some of the main @wmata website designs over the past 30 years! All screenshots are from the Internet Archive. Thread below:

This should feel familiar, the most recent major website overhaul until today. But did you know the site appeared red on Oct 7th, 2019, alerting users to major delays due to an out-of-service collision.
Hey @wmata, whenever the 50th train gets undecorated you should sell off the 50 Years ad/card posters, like the past Pride & July 4th ones! I’d love to buy one!
