Part of me thinks a new coach, better health, and Bane is enough to make the Magic a contender in the East.
The other part of me watched last season and thinks we’ve seen this movie before.
Not gonna lie, I’m torn.
Credibility is fine. But can he find a scheme that fits ORL this teams talents are far different than SA. Can he manage the game. Things that Mosley wasn’t really good at in ORL. This roster won’t change much in yr1, probably won’t in the next few w/the FO they have.
To everyone concerned how a 1st-time HC can command a locker room in ways the previous couldn’t
It comes down to credibility.
A team full of young hoopers, who’ve yet to advance, would be fools to tune out the voice mere days away from coaching in a 2nd NBA Finals. #EverybodyIn
Heard this story before maybe outside of the playoff stuff w/Mosley. Being an assistant is much diff than a HC. You now have in game management, making your own schemes. Can you fit the scheme to your players. The roster on ORL is much diff than SA.
Sean Sweeney 13 yrs in the league:
- 2 WCF appearances
- 1 Finals appearance
- Transformed Dallas, MIL, SAS into amazing defensive teams
- No non-sense coach (respected by star players)
Good start to the offseason 🪄
Orlando’s 1-4 could all respectfully shoot 3s. There is so much space when D12 or Gortat were on the floor. You can see reluctant help from the wings. Even their top rotation players could shoot.
Magic need to find a PG who can shoot & another bench player or 2.
@da_nyce1 Jrue 1st 6 seasons he didn’t shoot under 36% from 3. Lowry showed in college he can shoot the 3. He struggled early but the shooting was there prior which is my point. Suggs/Black are the same type of player. Suggs just costs a lot more at this point. We can agree to disagree.
He shot 33% in lone season of College from 3, which is a few feet shorter. He isn’t a spot shooter, he’s a rhythm shooter, less consistency. He’s mechanics aren’t right & you aren’t changing that at this stage. He is who he is. He needs to play for a team that has space
@DCNeutron If he slowed down and played controlled like Jrue, he absolutely could shoot more than 36%. That comes with maturity and experience; understanding you're just an elite role player and accepting it while being disciplined. Still only 24.
Generally “shooters” don’t just one day learn to shoot. The traits, mechanics, are there. Suggs is what his average is, he’s never going to be 36%+ shooter which is what they need at PG. they NEED a true PG to win 1on1, create chaos off Screen’s. Garland should have been targeted
@StanleySwanson0 I disagree. With the ball consistently in P&F hands (now Bane too), we dont need, nor ever needed, a traditional PG. Suggs is the best archetype of a player to have at PG with our guys. He just sucked these playoffs. Better defined role + improved shooting will help all
I’m sorry. Respectfully. Godwin isn’t in the same conversation as Evans. Godwin is a warrior & when healthy a heck of a player but doesn’t compare to Evans.
Seeing the word “Chris Godwin Jr” and “Year 10” both shocked me and broke my heart cause if not for a dirty knee dive that ended in a torn ACL and an illegal hip drop tackle….were talking about 1’fo the same way we talk about 13.
Just my opinion. Can’t wait to see him vs contact. Was never a burner or agile, explosive 1st step & power through contact to create his separation. It’ll be interesting to see if he can get back to that this yr. Last yr he struggled w/it. 2 injury are generally 2yr recovery.
Chris is moving REAL GOOD.
I think Jalen will still be WR1 because teams are going to focus on Emeka, but if Chris can return to that 2024 first 7 games level.. this offense is about to go off.
Adding Ted/Tez on top of that is just a cherry on top.
Although the FO decided that Mosley was more than likely done, they were giving him this yr to see if he could get over the hump. Regardless of what the fan base thinks. If most gets to the ECF they aren’t firing him. He just wasn’t changing after 5 yrs & that was downfall.
This Jamahl Mosley stuff so funny. Not even a single one of these lame ass reporters have watched more than 10 or 20 Orlando Magic games. Mosley was not fired cause he lost a 3-1 lead series without fucking Franz Wagner. His fate was decided months ago. Please shut the fuck up
If I remember correctly, I’ve seen where he’s developed a clutch in his shot from 3s that’s not part of his normal jump shot. Something apparently during his the last few years that’s dropped his % considerably. He has a funky release, just needs to develop consistency in release
Goes far beyond being a good person or an assistant. In game decisions & rotations were awful. Offensive scheme was elementary & predicable. You tried to force your Star player into being a defensive minded player. Cade Cunningham isn’t asked to do that. Sry it was time.
Death by 1,000 sources
The basketball world had expectations for Orlando for the first time in 15 years.
Why?
Because of the winning culture built by Jamahl Mosley
Grass ain’t always greener
He’ll be rehired immediately as one of the NBA’s best Head Coaches
#ThankYouMose
It’s not that complicated. It’s been the same issues since weltman took over. Stop filling the roster w/the same players. You need shooters. You need a true PG w/speed & can beat his 1on1. You need to find an offensive innovator, not a defensive minded hardass
The issue is Paolo is too soft. When they needed him he wasn’t there. He tries to play like Cade & doesn’t have the consistent jumper. I think he’s a good player but at his size he should be doing much more.
Scheme also isn’t a fit.
Run Banchero as a Point-Forward and the offense will look smoother and run through your star. Let him make the correct basketball plays and choose when to force his will. Magic don't have anybody who can actually set their offense. How the fuck did they even get this far?
Sure you can look at the roster, but he provided nothing offensively in scheme to get them open shots. They are too predictable. Thats the coaches problem. Rotations are the coaches problem. Not utilizing his roster. He may be a good assistant, but he wasn’t ready to be a HC.
on the firing of Jamahl Mosley:
"i don't think that Jamahl Mosley is fully at fault for what transpired. i think that he's the easiest piece to remove (...) but he's not out there missing 23 shots in a row and at some point you have to look at this roster."
@CBSSports
I don’t think it’s expensive at all to be a 6th man. Jamal Crawford made a great career being a 6th man. I think Suggs is better suited for it. Has the energy the 2nd wave needs.
I legitimately think Jalen Suggs has one of the worst contracts in the sport right now.
• Too expensive to be a bench player.
• Not good enough to be a starting PG.
• Decent enough at 2-Guard— but team has a better starting 2-Guard already.
Wtf does ORL even do with him?
What about Weltman? He’s the source of this roster disaster. Mosley’s rotations were bad, lack of effort, inability to get his team to be focused. That being said, this roster construction is awful.
