๐ค PAVE Parent Leader Spotlight ๐ค
Ward 8 Parent Leader LaSheema Burnett spoke on a panel today at the OSSE Strategic Plan Launch Event. She brought the parent perspective on how to prepare DC students for tomorrowโs opportunities. Thank you @OSSEDC for bringing parents to the table, and to @dcpcsb@yesimsy@DMEforDC and @chrisojalberts for coming together to speak about our childrenโs future!
Happy Father's Day to all the dads and father figures! Special shoutout to the PAVE dads who are incredible advocates not just for their own kids, but for all kids in DC ๐ We hope you feel extra loved and celebrated today!
Today, we celebrate freedom.
Juneteenth honors June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas finally received word that the Emancipation Proclamation was law. Though issued January 1, 1863, Freedomโs Eve, it took nearly two years to reach Texas due to its Confederate control and geographic isolation.
Juneteenth is recognized as the nationโs second independence day and is both a celebration and a call to action. Today we're reminded of the importance of continuing our work to create an education system where all kids have the resources & opportunities they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
Wishing everyone a day to reflect on our history and how far we still need to go โค๏ธ๐ค๐โ๐พ
