Looking into the detail of Dundee United from an analysis point of view. Interested in anything Scottish Football. Don't claim to be an expert, It's all for fun
We had plenty of possession in the first half tonight but struggled to get into their final 3rd. This is then where developing our play can help create better opportunities to build rather than resorting to direct balls up to Adams.
Frustrating for Scotland tonight but the tournament has shown up our limitations which can only get us so far.
A team reliant on being better out of possession (Germany game aside) than actually in possession.
Clarke has done really well to get us back on these stages but now we need to develop how play to progress. Inability to build effectively and create will always leave us short against better opposition which showed during this tournament.
Not overly impressed by the Holt signing, cant lie. Yes he knows the league and is decent enough but certainly doesn't tell you much about Goodwin's thoughts on Graham and even McMann. Holt plays mainly as a left centre back nowadays, both RG and SM positions π«€
@dufcgkm Graham hardly got a run of games and was thrown into games randomly so couldn't get into a rhythm. McMann was playing well as a left back under goodwin then got moved to LCB in a back 3 which I don't think is his best position.
Both decent enough with the right structure in place
@DylanCu01985984 Why's that? McMann is a steady left back but don't think he is comfortable as a left centre back which he seemed to get played a lot last season. I'm not saying he's a great player but he certainly isn't as bad as some make out imo
@TheDailyArab83 Doesn't look good for a few that play his position. Yeah couple of sensible and solid signings so far but still need to get that gk and RCB sorted or it will be worth nothing!
@TheDailyArab83 Will agree that it's low risk but still a strange one considering the cover currently in that position while also having no right sided centre back currently.
Mulgrew likely done, Graham was unsettled last season with selections which didn't help him imo
@ArabRossy Until they are no longer United players, I'll be counting them haha and Forgot Grimshaw. I do think he will be used mainly in midfield but he does cover FB. Still need a right sided centre back though. (or 2)
@allyftd @GjaMacphee Yeah still early enough but I would imagine these positions will be high up on the list of targets. Wouldn't be surprised if we hear of more comings/goings between now and the end of the week.
Another solid signing by United. Versatile, experienced and will be a good signing for the league. First two signings both what we lacked badly in the midfield last year so certainly a sign that Goodwin knows what is required!
So far no complaints! π
@allyftd @GjaMacphee I actually think the opposite, I think we've signed him for the midfield with him being able to cover RB if/when required but time will tell on that one. Certainly a good option to have for both positions
@GjaMacphee Played as a full back and as a centre midfielder. Played in midfielder for Morton last year and I think that's his best position but can cover a few positions which always helps.
