Recovering an M24 Chaffee During the Korean War (1951)
As U.S. forces advanced north of Suwon, South Korea, an M24 Chaffee ran over an uncleared anti-tank mine. Avoiding the full force of the explosion, the tank survived with the loss of a single track.
While nearby M4 Sherman tanks secured the area and advanced to deter potential counterattacks, an armored recovery vehicle arrived to recover the disabled Chaffee as U.S. forces engaged distant enemy positions.
This footage highlights the coordination between armored, engineer, and recovery units required to keep U.S. armored formations operational during the Korean War.
Digitally restored, enhanced, and presented with immersive sound design to recreate how these moments may have looked and sounded at the time.
