A member of the waxcap family (Hygrophoraceae), is a beautiful and intriguing mushroom often sought after for its distinct color and shape.🌈

This mushroom stands out for its vibrant orange to orange-red cap, which has a slightly waxy, slimy texture when fresh, especially in moist conditions. The cap can range from convex to nearly flat as it matures, sometimes developing a small central depression. The gills beneath the cap are broad and widely spaced, starting out a pale orange or yellow and often darkening with age, giving it a warm, gradient appearance.🌞🍄

The stem of Hygrocybe reesiae is relatively slender and is usually the same shade of orange as the cap or a bit lighter. It's smooth, lacking the fuzz or scales seen in other mushroom types. Waxcaps like this one are often considered indicators of healthy ecosystems because they thrive in undisturbed, nutrient-poor soils, often in old grasslands or heathlands with low nitrogen levels.🌱🍃

While waxcaps aren't typically edible due to their small size and the waxy texture, Hygrocybe reesiae is admired for its ecological role and beauty.
