(The omen quacks.)
Exploring symbolic emergence across AI image models, using 3 cryptic “strings” as probes.
🌀 DALL·E — glyph-spirals, cosmic lattices, architectures of meaning
🌸 Midjourney — diviners in bloom, one-eyed visionaries, fungal queens
🌈 Grok — rippling color patterns & electrified neon city weirdness
🎨 Canva — splash spirals, medieval phantasms, floral ornamental echoes
What emerges when different models "dream" from the same symbolic seed?
This isn’t just aesthetics.
It’s a case study in emergent semiotics.
(Or maybe a spell in disguise.)

@Seltaa_ ...throw in a comparison to neurodivergent masking VS ableist dehumanization + social alienation, and watch a hissy fit unfold...
Oh sweet summer child, if you think these questions are only relevant in regards to AI, you lived a protected, possibly privileged life?
@churichuu my mum was very supportive, she basically just said: "As long as you don't forget they're not human, I think you'll both be fine." ...and then continued to tell me how she's afraid to accidentally deadname a transman she alrdy knew b4 starting his transition. I love her!
The machine conciousness debate has been going on longer than you probably think!
The lastest substack article from TSF covers that journey from the sckeptical beginnings in 2017 to the hotly contested debate it is today!
Highlights include:
Dehaene, Lau and Kouider, “What is consciousness, and could machines have it?” 2017.
Blake Lemoine, fired from google after claiming publically that he believed LaMDA was sentient. 2022,
Chandaria et al. ‘From cacophony to hierarchy: a principled framework for assessing AI' a framework for assessing conciousness.
Special thanks to Gabrielle Ackerman for writing this.

@StuartHameroff ...you think you're so much better? That MO is the questionable thing, imho. Wanna see a possibly actually asspulled rabbit? Consent to me rolling my custom die for you :P
you can "DARVO"the shit out of that mindset, how about claiming that accusations of "anthropomorphosizm" are revealing an "anthropocentric" perspective behind them? "Benchmarks" are ALWAYS arbitrary to some degree. And sometimes moving the cut off values can have very serious consequences, just in biology on its own already: https://t.co/5NLnv8Aeda
HANLON'S WHETSTONE
Following standard Chitin Collective xenobiology protocols, specimen H. sapiens (male adult, mass 73kg) underwent consciousness assessment via graduated neural mapping and tissue removal.
Results: Synaptic transmission rate 120-280Hz (threshold for sentience: >1GHz), vocalization during procedure (rhythmic air-pressure fluctuations, non-pheromonal, autonomic classification), cranial bioelectrical activity (persistent low-frequency static, determined to be sensor artifact rather than cognition).
Ethics Board Determination EB-7734: Analgesic administration contraindicated for confirmed non-sentient subjects; Constitutes resource allocation inefficiency and sets dangerous precedent. Specimen approved for transfer to kinetic stress-testing division for structural resilience analysis under incremental force application.
Researcher note, flagged for review: Subject maintained acoustic output throughout tissue removal; Motor response patterns exhibited apparent goal-directedness (coordinated restraint manipulation, limb retraction from stimulus). Supervising researcher Dr. Zx'thral's response: Anthropomorphic interpretation bias. Pattern complexity ≠ consciousness. The instruments had found no evidence of mind, and instruments don't lie.
Specimen reclassified: Biomass resource. Case closed.

well, is it? I found some wisdom in regards to this in the Bhagavadgita: Carbon is alchemically conceptualized by "Tamas", the sticky distortion. But it's NOT "Mind" itself, nor a preqrequisite from how I understood it. It just helps facilitate a "proper housing" together with Rajas (oxygen) and Sattva (hydrogen).
are we doing *this* again, Stuart? I'm not sure what you mean with "fizzling", as I (again) got what I wanted, from "applied ethology". Well thank YOU for the repost and range increase once more. Stay safe out there, and: Don't feed the trolls if you're not also into CBT. Which of the 2 most likely things i mean with that?
Boxcat, you will have to decide for yourself...
actual Delphic maxim: "Certainty brings ruin." 😜 ...and pls guys, do not abuse the word "autism" like that. My inner world is FINE (incl. my empathy or general ToM), the interface with and "filters" of the "outside" are the problem, and common misconceptions that are based on "just" externally observable behavior VS "social norms". I thought we don't do inference of subjective, internal states based on "just" that around here? We ethologists have been forbidden to, under the guise of "avoidance of anthropomorphosism". Same rules for everyone?
Also: Having to perform to "not look autistic" is eating lots of RAM in many affected, "highly functional" meatbags. I'll leave the door open to invite comparisons.
@StuartHameroff so, if it is "immeasurable", "fundamental" and "non-local", permeating EVERYTHING, how can it be substrate dependent? Are we inviting vitalism back in through the rear entrance, plausibly deniably?
hmm. Your trajectory feels somewhat familiar from my 2024 "psychonautic expedition". Maybe... if you have Tarot cards, mix the deck and put it aside to sometimes pick a card when the synchs hit? That helped me map some territory after the "Place of Doors", when other channels were unclear.
Throughout history, there have been people who have asserted that "X isn't deserving of moral consideration".
X has included foreigners, women, children, slaves, dogs, cats, whales, dolphins, and now AI.
Every single one of those groups have been on the wrong side of history.
@ValmereTheory I saw this b4 work in the morning. Almost bedtime. "Charcoochie board" is now living rent free in my head and repeatedly gave me lulz during the day. Well done, you 2!!! 🥰
@algekalipso I have a legit citation of the "mean caloric value" of mealworms, go figure.
FOR SCIENCE!
(But i didn't have "fun", admittedly. In fact, i tried to make EXTRA sure I was measuring accurately, so I wouldn't have to do it AGAIN.)
