The phrase “a light to the Gentiles” comes from the Bible, especially Isaiah 49:6, and is also applied to Jesus in the New Testament.
Isaiah 49:6 (KJV): “I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.”
Meaning: God’s message and salvation were not intended only for Israel. The “Gentiles” means the nations outside Israel. Being a light to the Gentiles means bringing God’s truth, hope, salvation, and righteousness to people who do not yet know Him.
Jesus is described as fulfilling this mission in Luke 2:32:
“A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.”
And Jesus told His followers:
Matthew 5:14: “Ye are the light of the world.”

The Bible is very strong on this point.

John 8:44 describes the devil as one who “does not stand in the truth” and calls him “a liar and the father of lies.”

Even more directly, 2 Thessalonians 2:10–12 says that some people perish because they “refused to love the truth.” The passage distinguishes between merely knowing truth and loving truth.

So biblically, there is an important principle:

God loves truth because truth reflects who He is. Those who deliberately hate, reject, distort, or replace truth with lies are setting themselves against God’s character.

And 3 John 1:4 shows the positive side: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

In other words: God wants His people not only to know the truth, but to love it, speak it, and live by it.
