Watched Peddi Hindi dub. It's a great film.
It delivers a powerful plot addressing vital rural issues. Ram Charan shines with intense masculinity and a phenomenal, award-worthy performance. Mainly in the second half, he had the scope for that, and he rocked. Right from the hospital sequence, his performance will truly bring tears to your eyes.
What worked
The Tone - It handles caste dynamics without pushing Ambedkarite politics or reservation, with no demeaning of Hinduism.
The Action - The cricket and Kushti scenes are brilliantly over-the-top. Luckily, it's not another routine cricket match, even in the cinema hall. Telugu cinema has this unique trait of bringing anime-style action to real life. Saw a similar thing in RRR and Salaar.
The Cast - The wrestling master and his old friend perform flawlessly. Divyenndu Sharma deserved better scenes, tbh. His performance was good though.
Janhvi Kapoor did exactly what she does on social media, that is sexualising herself. Luckily, they did not promote infidelity.
Good cinematography and music.
What didn't work - Editing and VFX in some parts could've been better.
The emotional shift in the second half elevates the entire film. This standout dialogue for me: "Back then, stations were formed where the British wanted to loot, and trains were stopped whenever they wanted to pee, yet even now thousands of villages still lack a proper stop. They don't even exist on our map."
Buchi Babu Sana wrote a fantastic story, and Ram Charan's hard work pays off. A great watch!
Note - It's not a paid review.
