@flameosumeet Missing a huge one. FIFA is the most popular video game in history. That introduced millions of Americans to clubs and players they would t have otherwise heard of. That and prevalence of EPL via NBC are the two biggest factors that grew the game here.
@ShannonTerry And a handful of schools whose (football or basketball program) operate akin to a pro team. To break apart the entire ecosystem for the few has far more collateral damage to the enterprise of college sports then is being represented in your point.
@ShannonTerry I dunno if something can be labeled “systemically broke” if it serves, at a fairly high level, the needs of 90% of its athletes and member schools. There are a handful of athletes who have true marketing value beyond the cost of their scholarship.
@IHateSoccerPod So you are advocating for being the worst brand of American, got it. How about embrace the culture, adopt the lingo, and try to be a proper soccer nation. Fixed it for ya. But I’ll draw the line at “boots” because that’s just ridiculous.
@acampbellsports Are Eurosnobs people who rightfully acknowledge that European club soccer is the highest test of the game. And probably, as in other fields, your best players will be those testing themselves against the highest level of competition? Those people?
@hmn_alchemy@JayHrndz2 If you don’t rate Dest you don’t know ball. There is no middle ground. His technical skills are superior to anyone in our pool let alone his positional group. He’s a must start every game. Weah comes on for him at 60-65 mins. Everyone else claps on the bench
