With support from the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), Dignity First Somalia (DFS) implemented a community-led lifesaving response for communities in rural Jowhar District affected by multiple shocks and conflict.
Across Timire, Cali Waraabey, Kulmis-Weyne, Maciye Tuurey, and Buulo-Feermo, the project supported communities through Cash for Work, land preparation and ploughing, agricultural seed and farm tool distribution, fertilizers and other agricultural inputs, and pre-harvest crop monitoring.
These interventions supported flood mitigation, restored crop production, and strengthened livelihoods across the five target locations.
We sincerely thank the communities and local stakeholders for their participation and collaboration throughout the project.

DFS participated Stakeholder Engagement Forum on Anticipatory Action, organized by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MoHADM), Hirshabelle State. #AnticipatoryAction#DisasterManagement#Somalia
in partnership and Support with @shf_somalia DFS conducted three-day workshops for Water Management Committees in Beledweyne, focusing on effective water management and community ownership to enhance water services. 🌍💧 #WASH#CommunityEmpowerment
In Beledweyne we participated a high-level meeting led by the Ministry of Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Hirshabelle State.
Theme: to establish a State-Level Technical Working Group (TWG) on Anticipatory Action.
🚰 In our wash intervention, and with support from @shf_somalia, DFS has rehabilitated shallow wells and constructed a water kiosk in Beledweyne district, providing a reliable water source for vulnerable families among internally displaced persons (IDPs). #WaterForAll#IDPs.
In Baidoa, today Met with the @UNmigration team to review the ongoing IDP biometric verification in Baidoa—13 of 17 catchments covered so far.
Over 284,000 individuals were registered across 13 catchment areas, improving the precision of population figures and reducing duplication. The exercise revealed a 30% adjustment in individual-level data, demonstrating enhanced accuracy and accountability in registration processes.
This initiative jointly implemented by the International Organization for Migration @iom_somalia, @Acted, and the Danish Refugee Council @DRCSomalia through the #BRaVE system.
We discussed steps we need to take to complete the remaining catchments in order to obtain complete picture of Baidoa IDPs.
We commend @CCCMCluster biometrics registration and assure to advocate with @IOM to raise resources needed to complete Biometric IDP registration throughout South West State of Somalia.
As the humanitarian situation in the State worsens, biometric data will play a vital role in ensuring efficient and effective response—helping prevent duplication and misuse of resources.

Situation Update:
Since the start of the year, Food Security and Nutrition Assessment Unit (FSNAU) IPC Phase classification reports show a steady rise in the number of people facing Phase 4 food insecurity — the emergency level — across the South West State:
•Jan–Mar: 72,150
•Apr–Jun: 139,970
•Jul–Sep: 150,540
•Oct–Dec: 227,340
The chart clearly shows this worsening trend.
Nutrition crisis deepens in South West State: FSNAU projects more than 134,000 children under 5 will suffer from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) between Aug 2025–July 2026 which is 32% of Somalia’s total caseload.
Rising food insecurity and malnutrition in South West State signal a looming humanitarian crisis.
Without urgent action, Emergency-level cases will continue to climb through late 2025 and into early 2026 and potentially could escalate into Phase 5 (catastrophe) by early 2026.
The Ministry urgently call upon Somalia’s international partners, donors, and humanitarian organizations to scale up life-saving food and nutrition interventions.

🚨 Emergency Update from Baidoa 🚨
Heavy rains hit Baidoa in the past few days, causing serious damage across several IDP camps. Due to flooded roads, DFS couldn't access the camps directly—but thanks to the help of local IDP leaders, we've assessed the damage.
These camps were selected following direct requests from their respective community leaders, who reached out to our DFS response team based in Baidoa. Each camp has received three water delivery trips to help address the urgent water needs of their residents.
In close collaboration with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable host communities, we successfully provided emergency water supply to three IDP camps—Goley 1, Bulo Tugeer, and Derbaal—as part of our ongoing seven-day water trucking initiative in Baidoa.
The new Ministry of Fisheries & Marine Resources offices, built with support from @EU_in_Somalia through the #RAAISE project, were officially opened in #Baidoa.
Graced by the President of Southwest State, the event honoured #FAO for its contribution to fisheries sector dvt.
Today in #Baidoa,
We held the final validation workshop on the draft law for the prevention and combating of aid diversion in South West State, Somalia.
The workshop brought together technical team of government officials from line ministries to review and finalize the draft.
This marks the culmination of a series of consultations and validation workshops across #Baidoa, #Hudur, and #Afgoye districts.
The draft law is final now.
Soon It will be presented to the State Cabinet for approval before being submitted to Parliament for adoption, reinforcing efforts to safeguard humanitarian assistance delivery and enhance accountability.
