bobby sherman passed on this day in 2025. he was 81.
cancer.
bobby was my was my first client.
i was 21.
i recall attending a beach party in santa monica, ca.
natalie wood, sal mineo, jane fonda and others were there as well.
bobby and his band appeared and blew away the guests.
he auditioned for a network music show called ‘shindig’, did 24 episodes ...... and became a ‘teen age heartthrob’.
this was before david cassidy stole the crown.
he signed with a record company and went on to record over 100 songs, 23 singles and 10 albums. he spun his career into a hit television series (‘here come the brides’) and melted young girls hearts.
we first met at that party, and became fast friends.
i was new to l.a. and a student at l.a.c.c.
the show, ‘shindig’ was syndicated to south america and he was invited to appear on stage in buenos aires, argentina and lima, peru.
bobby asked me to escort him to south america and handle media matters..... and i would get paid! it sounded good to me.
so, i played hooky from school for a week or two and off we went.
i had no qualifications or knowledge about touring, the music business, artist management, public relations or any of it.
he called me his ‘manager’ and i accepted the ‘title’. it happened that way sometimes in those days.
all i recall is the endless cacophony of screaming girls.
i would hear that sound again on a few occasions in the years to follow
i recall the ‘strategizing sessions’ in his family’s kitchen, the times i would visit him in the first house he purchased, where he had constructed a realistic scale model of ‘disneyland’....ad how he handled his success with grace and dignity.
after he chose to set aside his show business career, he became a member of law enforcement in southern california.
bobby worked with the l.a.p.d. and later, with the san
bernardino sheriffs department. ..... as an e.m.t.
.
(from breaking hearts to mending them).
he lived out his time with his wife, children and six grandchildren.
remembering bobby sherman.

IN MEMORY - Jackie Gleason Mr Gleason died on this date - June 24, 1987. Iconic on The Honeymooners, great in The Hustler and Requiem for a Heavyweight, hilarious in Smokey and the Bandit. I recall seeing this People magazine on display, and almost losing it. An all time fave.
Hollywood 1979: Does R&B singer Teddy Pendergrass have a secret life? He was spotted wearing lavender underwear during a show at New York's Avery Fisher Hall; Tony Curtis on Barbra Streisand: "She's shrewd, my friend, but she's a poor actress."
if I’m paying $7.99 to RENT a 30 year old movie on Amazon while already having Prime, just bring back Blockbuster. at least their employees judged my life choices to my face for free
