The most dangerous hire is a great engineer with zero design exposure or a great designer with zero technical intuition. Both will build the wrong thing confidently. Bridging the gap isn't a nice-to-have. It's your product's compounding advantage.

A senior engineer joined a design review once. First 20 minutes he said nothing. Then: "this modal makes the user do the work the system should do."

Best design feedback in the room. He just needed permission to trust his product instincts.

How an engineer builds design intuition:

1. Study one great SaaS product per week not the brand, the flows
2. Ask "why is this here" before "how is this built"
3. Redesign one screen you use daily
4. Ship it. Embarrassment is the curriculum.
