@nickycoull@simonwilson2304 @at_davidv Australia is a different country. Different economy, culture, population density and geo location. Spread of any infectious disease is complex, so it’s difficult and unhelpful to try and attribute it to one thing. Civil liberties are another thing altogether...
@nickycoull@simonwilson2304 @at_davidv You are a very rude man. Why do you feel so threatened by someone arguing a reasoned case for a point of view that isn’t yours? In Aus it isn’t staying in a hotel for 2 weeks, it’s incarceration. The point you are missing is that C19 is transmitted mainly through the community.
@LoveRocksLondon@simonwilson2304 @at_davidv Two things:
1. Hancock hasn’t got everything right, I’m no fan of his but he did well with vaccination. Easy to be blinded by personality.
2. Easy to look back now and criticise. Much more difficult making complex decisions in real time. You ever done that? I have.
@newbris @Robbiebond77 @simonwilson2304 @at_davidv Nobody dying? Yet *six* died in your state yesterday. How will your tweet sound to their grieving families? Shame on you. All lives matter, one death is too many.
@newbris@simonwilson2304 @at_davidv Comparing Aus to UK like this is naive. Like apples with oranges. Uk has much higher population density and much bigger economy. Also a different geo location. Dynamics of C19 spread is complex. But hey, if you need to simplify it in order to bash me, that’s ok. Difficult times.
@GB_Victory@simonwilson2304 @at_davidv Have you ever made any decisions that affect people’s lives and you are responsible for? I suspect not. Also, would you be this rude to my face? Again, I suspect not. Another proud keyboard warrior.
@Robbiebond77 @simonwilson2304 @at_davidv I’m sorry, people are dying, and you say the Aus gov don’t need the vaccine in a hurry? Really? More lives saved through speedy implementation of a vaccine program than by banging people up as they enter the country.
@simonwilson2304 @at_davidv Two things:
1. Isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing?
2. HMG isn’t killing people, the virus is.
The main mode of infection is in the community, not through airports. Aus gov are locking people up without trial as they enter the country. A slippery slope IMHO.
@simonwilson2304 @at_davidv Another thing you might find interesting. Two pals of mine living in Aus. told me no one will get *any* vaccine before March. This because Aus did not pre-order doses as we did. This was a brave decision by Matt Hancock at a difficult time. Easy to snipe from behind a keyboard
@simonwilson2304 @at_davidv What a shocking authoritarian approach. I never realised Australia was a police state. This thread makes me very proud to be British and very proud of our politicians. For reference I have never voted Tory and never will. 1/
@EvanHD Come to think of it, it would be interesting to know what happens with new drugs that are FDA approved. Is there a streamlined MHRA process in such cases? Anyone from Pharma out there?
@EvanHD Agree with all replies about due process and MHRA approval. The MHRA are a class act. However, I bet there are many areas of US and EU approval that are identical to the MHRA’s. In such cases there’s nothing to be gained in reinventing the wheel.
@JasonGroves1@tnewtondunn Feeling smug: I saw this coming and had a buzz cut the day before the barbers all closed. I went without a cut for c24 weeks in the spring and it was neither pleasant or edifying.
@BadMojo9@Santiaguerra2@kevingrainger@EdConwaySky Ok, I’ve got a quiet morning, so why not share the data that you have to suggest lockdown doesn’t work? Do you actually have any data? Perhaps you can also explain why the figures dropped in the spring? Don’t tell me, it was all a seasonal effect. 🤔
@Santiaguerra2@kevingrainger@EdConwaySky Agree. So what is the evidence behind your gut feeling? The most rational analysis of the pandemic thus far suggests a lockdown will lower transmission. Indeed, both common sense and germ theory suggest it will work and the NHS will not be over run.
@EdConwaySky Superb thread. Much needed and very nicely communicated. Some sort of standardisation of reported figures is needed but I’m realistic about the prospects. It would need a lot of people to put their own self interest aside and work together. Yeah, right.
@Doctor1Hundred @whippletom Completely agree. Vets should be allowed to administer vaccines. Never met one that wasn’t an extremely safe pair of hands. How about veterinary nurses too?
