One of the top 3 issues in school is rarely mentioned in discussions about schools and improving them; toxic staff. So damaging to morale and almost impossible to get rid of...
Teaching gets more manageable with the passing years. It can take over your life and this is the main danger for new teachers. It is a job. Seek help from those around you and resources from anywhere you can. Don't believe all that Educelebs spout. Just pick out the rare nuggets.
Maybe a controversial take, but one of the worst things about working in a school is that very poor teachers and other staff never get sacked. Everybody has to work around them. It is beyond tiresome and saps morale. Holds back so many depts and faculties 🙁
In the UK, the demise of private schools is not solely driven by the VAT imposed by the government. It is part of it but falling rolls across the country (low birth rates) and the severe drop in overseas students coming to the UK over the last 5 years are the main reasons.
Online all you see is VAT mentioned. It is really not the main reason. Also the vitriol from teachers in state schools towards their private colleagues is dismaying. You are all teachers, helping develop young people.
Many private schools are the lifeblood of their local communities and often the largest employer for many miles around. People often forget it isn't just teachers losing their jobs when these institutions close, but cleaners, carpenters, electricians, office staff...
Private schools are almost all not like most imagine them to be. Eton and Harrow aside, most look like any state school, often though working from crumbling old buildings, not new ones like many rebuilt schools in the state sector.
Whatever your politics, next time you read about another private school closure, think for a moment about the devastating impact on hundreds of families who live in that village or town. That is all I ask.
They often cater for pupils who would, for many reasons, struggle or worse, in most state schools. This has been the most saddening aspect of the recent closures for me.

It has started already... Most of the Welsh population will soon regret giving Plaid Cymru the power. So much money will be wasted on language stuff which should instead be spent on health and education...

8/ When deciding whether to trust someone criticising the BBC, it is always worth asking yourself why they are doing it—is it really because the BBC have erred (which does rarely occur) or is it because the critic has something to gain?
