@satiricmechanic —size of a moose, and it is dying. Thick blood oozes from an open wound in its neck, and its insides are visible through a gash in what you would assume to be its stomach area. Seeing how large the animal is, whatever tore through it must have been even larger.
@satiricmechanic Opening the foliage reveals a small area, and as your light passes over it, you notice the source of the noise, sprawled out on the side.
It is some sort of alien creature, mammalian in appearance, though akin to a mixture of various earth-animals combined; it's about the—
@VigorousGal Upon drawing your gaze across the ground, you notice a sharp rock not far from your feet; without geological expertise, it's impossible to tell whether it was formed naturally or whether it had been splintered in half.
It is another peaceful day on Kostroma. The sun is relatively warm, though there is some cloud coverage.
The night was largely quiet, though some odd sounds could be heard by those outside, behind the fences, at the time. To be expected on an alien planet with new fauna.
@satiricmechanic —just yet, but you can discern the general location of the sound - it isn't far. It is likely that if you can hear it, it can hear you.
If you had wanted to turn back, now would be the last chance.
@satiricmechanic Not warded off by the foul stench, you continue to push deeper into the forest, following the trail you've assumed to be dried blood caught on the foliage.
Soon, you begin to hear some sort of harsh breathing sound, in a slow, rhythmic pattern. Nothing catches your eye—
@VigorousGal Whether that is a wise choice or not is yet to be discerned.
The tree line waits for you, patient and expectant. It is impossible to see more than ten feet into the forest, and something tells you that venturing beyond the first layer of trees will render you out of sight.
@breezycombatant What she had thought to be the feeling of poisonous dew on her skin, was in fact very small, water-dwelling insects eating at the surface layer of her skin. Upon climbing out of the water, many of them are washed off - but some remain, barely visible to the eye. Each one merely—
@satiricmechanic Choosing the path towards the strange noise versus that of running water, you trek even further into the unknown. A foul smell wafts over to you, growing stronger as you continue in the direction you've chosen.
If looking closely, you might spot some blackened residue—
@BrokenByStars His searching is rewarded by the realization that there are many suitable rocks scattered about the ground. While most are rounded pebbles, some rocks have taken on pointed formations, or had instead been broken in half. It is impossible to tell without geological expertise.
@VigorousGal If she chooses to remain close to the ship, not leaving the immediate sight of the tactical and command crew by the fences, she can see a wide expanse of flat ground, with nothing but grass, dirt, and rocks to obscure her view, until the treeline of forests.
If she continues even deeper, she can begin to hear the sound of water running. In another direction, a high pitched whine reaches her ears, before fading. Does she turn back?
He is without direction. Looking around him, he can see only the dense coverage of trees and thick foliage. There is no sound beyond that of insect life and the running of some nearby creek. If he is trying not to die, he is doing a terrible job at it.
