@TheMeldrew I can't copy this mornings SNSM Berck Facebook post here, it is awful, women, children under 8 and a baby rescued near Hardelot. The taxi boat beginning it's journey many kms away. They save lives no matter origin, brave people.
@_njk26@ukhomeoffice With Schengen there are no tollbooth, which is wonderful for those of us who travel for work or pleasure.
France has a border with Spain, Andorra, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany.
These days it would be impossible to stop and control all vehicles on every route.
@style66133@ukhomeoffice A family member is a Gendarme as is my neighbour.
The camps are broken up the people offered to claim asylum, some do, some don't.
Those who are there longterm don't have the money to pay the traffickers, they are the ones who storm the boats often resulting in drownings.
@_njk26@ukhomeoffice UK wanted sovereignty, you have it.
There is no law to stop anyone from leaving a country even their own.
It is for the receiving country to accept or deny.
It is what it is.
@itsmeag52425650@ukhomeoffice If you look you will find thousands have been stopped since 2018.
You just don't want to understand or accept.
I live here, I see it and know people involved in the horrors of dealing with trafficked people.
@style66133@ukhomeoffice The camps are one thing, people are brought in by traffickers, likely only been in France days, they have bought a 'package'.
Many have already claimed in EU, UK can't check as lost access to Eurodac Database due to .... Brexit.
@Brit41493833@KJVBaptist193@ukhomeoffice The SNSM (=RNLI) go out regularly in the middle of the night to rescue people.
I think they would prefer not to do this.
The taxi boats are launching as far afield as Baie de Somme, then head along the coast to pick up people in the sea up to their waists.
@_njk26@ukhomeoffice They already are, as far south as Baie de Somme.
Another this morning off Hardelot where many including women and children were rescued from the sea by the SNSM Berck (= French RNLI) it was very foggy here.
