So we now know the difference between Ukrainian and US democracy. Ukrainian civil society is strong enough to force a climb down when the system tries to politically protect corruption. In the US the leadership can take hundreds of millions from any old crypto scheme , and nothing can stop them.

Trump is admitting two things here. The first is that he has been serving Russian interests by protecting Putin on numerous occasions. The second is that Trump is feeling pressure to be harder on Russia, which he really doesn’t want to do.
