📅 The last 52 days of Dallas Keuchel's 10-year MLB journey account for just 3% of his service time.

In what has been a decade of craving and valuing fastball velocity, those 52 days spotlight Keuchel's unyielding resolve. Not so dissimilar from what was expected from him after his first 52 days in the major leagues.

As a 7th-rounder, initially without the signature beard, and lacking fastball velocity, Keuchel lacked any facets of projection.

His numbers looked like this on Day 52 of his rookie year.

• 45 Innings
• 26 Walks
• 16 Strikeouts

Had it been 1912, these numbers would've been bad.

Given it was 2012, it's nothing short of horrendous.

A career as a number 5 starter would've been an overachievment. To say he's exceed that to date would be quite the understatement.

However, the echoes of the past were loud.

Now 52 days from his decade milestone, his 2022 plummeted. He transitioned from "command artist" to merely "old guy who throws slow" to the eyes of those with decision making power.

To reclaim his MLB spot, he:

• Trained at @DrivelineBB for 6 months prior to getting signed
• Spent months facing college hitters in live at bats.
• Proved himself in the minor leagues for a month, delivering a 1.13 ERA, still, the call up only came on the final day of an opt out.

Different from his rookie days with the Astros, the Twins were gunning for the playoffs, his initial 2 MLB starts:

9.45 ERA, 0 Strikeouts, 4 Walks

No favors given, his next outing demanded perfection. And for 6.1 innings, Keuchel delivered.

Literally.

Yet, his tightrope was evident when he was next seen in a bullpen role, delivering 5 scoreless innings to help the Twins bounce back from a 5-0 gap against the Rangers.

Three months earlier: Keuchel was on a plyo mound alongside college rookies, with "Big Booty Mix" setting the mood.

Despite the accolades, the descent, the uncertainty of a future in MLB, he remained unpretentious to everyone he encountered across those 6 months @DrivelineBB
