@jrtiger23@SatiarShah This is just proving our point, Hughes is ineligible to sign a contract until July 1st, 2026. So this comes down to Yzerman basically wanting a verbal commitment. Again it was pretty widely reported that Hughes gave a number of teams he would be open to Detroit was one of them.
@SatiarShah@jrtiger23 Wasn't it reported by most that DET was a preferred location for Hughes. Chances are high that he signs with Wild but I think even higher (and likely longer term) if he was in Detroit. Yzerman just wanted a verbal commitment.
@CanucksFan160@taj1944@DonnieandDhali People like to conject when it comes to 17 year old kids like it's definitive. I can accept having a higher view on one player vs another, but Malhotra produced in the playoffs at a rate only behind McDavid, Marner, and Suzuki. The question is will that trajectory continue?
@Since1988bro@Adamkblat If you make it a toxic for them then yes you can force players out. But is that what we want? Realistically his NTC turns into a L-NTC in two years, so approach him this off season and ask, but don't push, then ask again next off season.
@Hockey_Robinson I wonder if they see Carels as the clear #1 d-man or they would explore trading down and be okay to take from a few options. If they see he's clear cut #1 they may just pick at 2 and secure their guy
@burlivespipe@SadClubCommish What? If anything this bolsters their leverage. He's admitted to wanting to come here not the other way around. The Habs will want to "do right" by him and send him to his choice.
@CodySevertson I need to be clear that this isn't an endorsement for the Canucks scouting department, I think it needs an overhaul, but I think to post like this just discredits your stance.
@CodySevertson I think this is a pretty disingenuous post, Canucks have their issues scouting but they didn't have 1st round picks in 2020 or 2021, 2022 was Lekkerimaki which most Canucks fans agreed with the pick, 2023 Willander has played 1 NHL season vs Benson's 3. 2024 we didn't have a 1st.
People stressing out over taking Malhotra over Stenberg don't realize Stenberg won't even be there at three, SJS is going to flip the pick and move back. Canucks will land Malhotra with McKenna / Stenberg off the board.
@BuresFlow@Canuck_Faithful@ThomasDrance How so? People treat online consensus as gospel but every year there are wrong picks, reaches, steals, risers, fallers, it's all conjecture of each team or person. Reality is it's rare to pinpoint exactly what a player will be come or if they'll out perform their peers.
@Hockey_Robinson@sassmyassafrass@Hockey2L Cam how much weight do you put into recent performance? Caleb's point trajectory seemed to gain a lot of steam near the end of the season and just continued into the playoffs. How do you determine whether upward trajectory versus flash in the pan?
@Raymond_Hatt@KawaVulcanRider@SatiarShah Also would like to point out that Robert Thomas was 1.0 PPG in the OHL but jumped to 1.53 PPG in his Draft +1 year, so if the trajectory continues Caleb could be a legit 1C. It's just up to the team to guess if it was a flash in the pan or a legitimate upward trajectory. 2/2
@Raymond_Hatt@KawaVulcanRider@SatiarShah This is slightly misleading. While his regular Season PPG at 1.25 puts him below the typical threshold of 1.45 PPG to become a 1st line forward, his Playoff PPG puts him only behind the likes of McDavid, Marner, and Suzuki, all of which are star players. 1/2
