The Practice of Drinking the Blood (Wine) & Consuming the Body of Christ can be traced back to the Orphic Myths of the Dismemberment (Sparagmos) of Dionysus. The consuming of the meat and wine was symbolic of the Titans eating the flesh (meat) & blood (wine) of Dionysus, the Heir Apparent to Zeus & Future Ruler of the Cosmos.
In the Dionysian Rites, the omophagia was the act of eating flesh and drinking wine to consume the god (Dionysus) AND become ONE with DIONYSUS.

This Alchemical Transmutation of Eternal Life is the same as the Hermetic Elixir of Life. The Elixir of Life is simply the 'Mixture of Life' or Mix of Opposites. From LEAD to GOLD. The Real Prize of the Alchemist is an Awakened Consciousness, an Enlightened State, Christ Consciousness. Carl Jung calls this process Individualization while the Goal of the Alchemist is always to TRANSMUTE Base Metals from LEAD to Gold.
In Alchemical Terminology, Saturn (or SATAN) is the "Lead" which is "transmuted" into other stages or variations of itself (other 'aspects of the deity'). This is the Prima Materia of the Alchemist.
As always, the Ultimate Goal of the Alchemist is to transmute Lead to "Gold" or SATAN (Saturn) into the "Sun" aka "Jesus is the Son". Base or BEAST Consciousness into Christic Consciousness.
Carl Jung explains, "And just as, in Christianity, the Godhead conceals itself in the man of low degree, so in alchemy it hides in the uncomely stone.”
Symbolically, this is the stone “rejected by the builders". The Rejected Stone is the Prima Materia. This leads to the Alchemical Notion that darkness conceals the light and that the true enlightenment is found in the “distressing shadows” of our psychology. The Gnostics called this the Divine Spark in Matter. In truth, the Goal is to FREE this DIVINE SPARK, RAISE the CHRISTOS & Become ONE with the FATHER.
Herein Lies the Difference between Modern Christianity & the Alchemical Opus.
Paul Levy writes, "The Christian point of view is that we [need] redemption and leaves the work of redemption to an autonomous divine figure. The alchemists, on the other hand, were having the epochal, revolutionary, and evolutionary realization that we are all collaboratively playing a crucial, participatory role in the Incarnation of the divine being. Both points of view are true, as they are complementary and unifying aspects of a greater whole. From the alchemical perspective, as Jung clarifies…, man takes upon himself the duty of carrying out the redeeming opus, and attributes the state of suffering and consequent need of redemption to the anima mundi (world soul) imprisoned in matter."
The Alchemist does not WORSHIP Christ, HE becomes CHRIST.
The alchemists finds their own salvation not by the merits of their works but by the "birth of Christ within him". Christ is the CHRYST (GOLD) trapped in MATTER.
Jung understood this, "The one primarily in need of redemption is not man, but the deity who is lost and sleeping matter. Only as a secondary consideration does he hope that some benefit may accrue to himself.”
In short, God (or the Self) has become imprisoned in the materia, and it is the task of the alchemist to set God FREE: TO RAISE the Christ WITHIN.
