Dorothea Lynde Dix

I work to change conditions for asylum patients through visiting them and writing letters to state and national legislatures about what I see.

@30thUSCongress Jesus said what you do for the least of these you also do for me. They are the least of these! #AsylumMovement

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

@30thUSCongress I'm sending you a memorial soon. 1 of every 1000 Americans is insane. We fought to be free, they deserve it as well!

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

@30thUSCongress I've provided much direct relief but it's not enough. The federal government needs to #STEPUP

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

@30thUSCongress Actually they're not! They are cramped, ill staffed, and all around unfit to serve the needs of the patients #getitright

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

@30thUSCongress Allocate land and $$ for new/updated mental hospitals ASAP

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

Well I put @NYLegislature in their place. Time to tackle the @30thUSCongress #AsylumMovement #TeamDix

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

@NYLegislature I am sending a memorial right now. Read it thoroughly and you will see the cost of moral treatment < cost of up keep

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

@NYLegislature #WWJD Would Jesus beat the helpless and insane? No! Jesus would love them and treat their illness. #TryThat

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

@NYLegislature I know plenty for I visited an asylum in Albany and saw it! I may be a woman but I know what I'm talking about

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

@NYLegislature Your asylum patients are naked being beaten by attendants! This is not OK!

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

They deserve better than this...#AsylumMovement #TeamDix

[Dorothea Lynde Dix @DLDix]

So mad about the current #asylum conditions...#timetoprotest
