-charging before departure likely improves battery life slightly
- charging on arrival likely reduces total electric usage

Any difference is likely in the noise and negligible, and you should probably do what works best for you.

Everyone who is interested in maximizing battery life and range should use the “End Charging By” option and the “precondition by” settings in the Set schedule tab on the @Tesla app.

“End Charging By” minimizes time your car spends at your charging limit.

“Precondition by” uses house power to condition the interior and reduces how hard the HVAC system needs to work reducing power consumption on your drive.

These two settings likely will make more of a difference than where you set your daily charge level (60 - 90%)

@SawyerMerritt @JoeTegtmeyer @Tesla So glad my parents have a model Y and dad got lifetime FSD. They will be using this car well into their 80s and it will likely make it so that I don’t have to take their keys from them like they had to do with my grandmother.

I do 69% 😉that usually gets me home with ~55% so is more than adequate and minimizes battery degradation.

If I plan to do a long day trip I’ll increase that as needed up to 95% if I need more than that in a day I’ll hit a supercharger.

Scheduling charging to complete just before departure and condition the cabin at the same time is ideal for maximizing range particularly in the winter.

@BlackMambaMilli Good on you, just don’t do all of the work for them. Get them a head start on their financial education with an allowance based on chores done and a budget that includes saving and investing!
