Just moments ago, presidential hopeful @Mike_Pence said what’s on every Republican politician’s mind: “I don’t really buy into the rich need to pay their fair share.”
A Republican in the White House means even more tax cuts for the rich.
Proud to have helped @Steve_Glazer create the California Veterinary Emergency Team to care for animals in disasters. Here’s an update on the program from KCBS. https://t.co/TUmor0B0Zv
@DanCALmatters I took this shot on my first day of work in the Senate. My office window was on the top floor, second from the left above the East Steps. Until KDL took it away on his way out of the Pro Tem job. That’s one of those stories you’re talking about!
I don't see anything in the SCOTUS opinion that would prevent universities from giving a preference to applicants who are descended from slaves -- as long as the schools were "color blind" about the race of those applicants.
@mehdirhasan The whole thing is just stupid. If his defense is going to be that he was lying -- "bravado" -- he doesn't need to say that the document he claimed was the plan to attack Iran was just "building plans." It could have been anything. But he can't even keep his lies straight.
219-210: House voted to repeal the ATF's pistol brace rule reclassifying pistols as short-barreled rifles if they have a stabilizing brace attachment. This joint resolution now heads to the Senate. White House opposes it and said President Biden will veto it.
The Constitution requires legislators to pass a budget by June 15, not a budget they know the governor will sign. Their budget deal is real and reflects their values, not the governor's. Calling it a "sham" because the governor hasn't blessed it seems harsh. Separation of Powers.
Commentary:
The California Legislature will be playing charades this week, passing a budget bill to meet the June 15 constitutional deadline even though it’s not the real budget. It will, however, protect lawmakers’ paychecks. https://t.co/XzuWgm4HYR

Far-right Republicans were holding McCarthy — and the House — hostage in part to force a vote on their legislation to end federal regulation of pistols modified to be used like AR-15 rifles. McCarthy relented. Why wasn’t that in the headlines? https://t.co/4Rv5qi6ffV
It's odd that the city at the heart of that court case -- Boise -- has no homeless camps on its streets or in its parks. Maybe someone should find out how they've done it.
Great piece from @rmc031 on the court case that made it hard for western cities to deal with tent camps.
I note the asymmetry — they said you can't ban sleeping on the street but it's fine to keep banning small lot homes, midrise apartments, etc

DESANTIS: "I also look forward to, as President, restoring the name of FORT BRAGG to our great military base in Fayetteville, North Carolina... It's an iconic name and iconic base, and we're not gonna let political correctness run amok."
But you get the feeling that if they could somehow blame Biden for the fires they would be singing a completely different tune about the health danger posed by the smoke.
Fox guest: There's just no health risk...We have this kind of air in India and China all the time, no public health emergency... this doesn't kill anybody, this doesn't make anybody cough, this is not a health event... particulate matter is just very fine soot, they're innocuous.
Great piece. One thing the transphobic crowd has never explained is how forcing a trans man to use the bathroom of his birth gender (the women’s room) makes women safer, or even makes them feel safer. Wouldn’t it be the opposite? https://t.co/aaSfbeZ65z
Biden has done a terrible job of shifting the discussion from "the debt," which most Americans oppose without really understanding it, to spending on specific, popular programs, which most Americans do understand and wouldn't want to cut.
Will President Biden, at the last minute, unveil an effective counter to G.O.P. debt ceiling blackmail? @PaulKrugman isn’t counting on it. https://t.co/38LfjBgrzF
Have the Lakers said yet whether Davis was evaluated for a concussion? As a Dubs fan I don’t won’t his injury to affect the outcome but it doesn’t seem like the media have pressed the Lakers on this issue. https://t.co/4rJjJmf6cE
Dems need to stop talking about default and hostage taking and leverage and start talking about the five or ten least popular things in the GOP bill. The public doesn’t care about process. People do care about losing services. That’s how we saved the ACA. https://t.co/5AXsdNXsto
The funny thing about this fight is that DeSantis is fighting against the concept of privatization and in favor of government control of land use and infrastructure. You go Ron! https://t.co/hoHoyiPQBx
The tragedy in the right-wing critique of the US involvement in the war is that they are giving anti-war dissent a bad name. It's a time-honored and crucial piece of the American tradition. But in this case Fox & Co. are using disinformation to pursue purely partisan motives.
It's not even that this was the one document doctored by pro-Russian Telegram users, inverting Ukrainian and Russian casualties. (I have the original, which shows Russian losses are greater.) It's that Carlson's team knows it and still let him run with this lie.
