@bobbyblakey Thank you Pastor Bobby. You were so blessed to sit under his teaching. I can see the impact in your teaching of the word of God. I’m grateful for the godly example of John MacArthur and his faithfulness to the verse by verse teaching for 56 years. 🙏🏻✝️
@gracetoyou My prayers are with the MacArthur family and his ministry friends. I’m so grateful to have been blessed by his online teachings for the past 24 years. I’ll look forward to meeting Pastor John in Heaven some day.
Our hearts are heavy, yet rejoicing, as we share the news that our beloved pastor and teacher John MacArthur has entered into the presence of the Savior. This evening, his faith became sight. He faithfully endured until his race was run.
2 Timothy 4:1-8
When someone enters into business trying to “do things differently” they almost always fail.
I don’t always agree with @sweatystartup but this is one tree he’s been barking up that is spot on.
We all want to be Steve Jobs, or Elon—the mad scientist with unbelievable upside coming from our ingenuity and ability to see the future.
But I’m gonna tell you the truth—doing something drastically different is the single most dangerous thing you can do in business.
We’re all living in a world of .0001% survivorship-bias. For every Jobs there are tens or hundreds of thousands of guys we’ve never heard of who failed, lost amazing amounts of money and drifted into obscurity.
The reason your competitors don’t do it the way “you think is gonna be some amazing improvement” is because it doesn’t work, or more likely, it’s been tried a thousand times and failed.
Respectfully, you’re not that smart (neither am I, if it’s any consolation)
I see this in property management (or take WeWork), some optimistic self-deluded egomaniac looking to leave their dent in the universe—“I’m gonna be the genius to finally disrupt this millennia old business.”
No. You won’t.
And you’ll go broke trying.
Let’s air the true, but incredibly boring, secret of 99.9% of all commercial success:
The goal of business is not to come up with some incredible innovation—it is to be 1-5% better than your competitors in a few key areas:
-customer service
-cost
-speed
-user experience
-long term outcomes
-flavor
-ambiance
-shipping
You name it…
There are additional “innovations” you can do to help growth, or profitability, or retention—you can innovate your pricing structure, improve your business model, your execution process.
But, these are internal facing and constitute a 1-5% customer-perceived improvement, which proves the point.
Your customer never wants innovation.
They don’t want to get driven around by strangers instead of taxis.
They don’t want to stay in people’s spare bedrooms.
They don’t want a phone without buttons.
You can teach them of these virtues, but it will cost money that almost none of us will ever have and takes a moment of inspiration and a conviction most of us can’t even comprehend.
Your customers want 1-5% better.
That’s it, it’s that simple.
They want better taxis, cleaner hotels, better Blackberries.
This is a free market, and (generally) an efficient one too..
Keep it simple stupid. Do what they expect you to do, just a little bit better.
The best part is, this is orders of magnitude easier and immensely safer.
Repeat after me “tomorrow I am going to pick one part of my business, and in 6 months it will be 5% better than industry average.”
If you do that, you will have a consistent moat of success.
Be 5% better at answering the phone.
Or 5% better at mowing a lawn, or fixing an AC.
Or 5% cheaper.
Your call.
Just make sure it is simple, measurable and achievable.
Do that 4 times over the next 4 years and you will have the dominant business in your market and industry.
Try teach people to brush their teeth with laser light and you’re out of business.
Check the Scriptures and judge everything against the Bible. Doctrines of demons are prevailing, even among famous Christian leaders and authors. We must be discerning and not fall for personality cults.

@greglaurie Thank you for sharing that Pastor Greg! Sometimes the journey feels long and never ending, but God knows just when to re-inspire hope in His ways and His perfect timing! He is good! Blessings to you and the family!
Maybe you have children that you’ve raised in the way of the Lord, but they’ve grown up and have gone astray. Maybe you won’t even see them this Christmas. Or maybe you will, but you know there will be tension. You wonder how and when God will ever get hold of them. But know this: God always has His people in every place to reach the lost, no matter their background or what they believe.
God reached the Magi and brought them to faith. And He can reach your family, your children, and your friends as well.
Thanksgiving is to be characteristic of the believer’s life. The Bible even commands it. “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). While relief from our earthly afflictions may be yet future, remember that Christ released us from the ravages of sin. May we not be counted among those who have accepted the miracle of salvation yet show little gratitude for it.
Success or failure in the Christian life is determined by how much of the Bible you get into your life on a regular basis and how obedient you are to it!

Let's say a couple is having marital problems, and they're even contemplating divorce, and they wonder where the romance went. I would ask them, ‘What did you used to do when you were in the first bloom of your relationship?’ The man might say, ‘I would look the best I could, and I would take her out, and pull out the chair for her…tell her I love her.’ And of course, the same kind of thing from the girl. I would advise them: ‘Why don't you just go back and do those things again and see what happens. Don’t wait for the feeling of romance. Do romantic things.’”
In the same way in our relationship with Jesus. If we want to see spiritual revival, do revival-like things, which means you open up every day with the Word of God in prayer and be actively involved in your local church. Serve in your local church and share the Gospel.
“If my sinfulness appears to me in any way smaller or less detestable in comparison with the sins of others, I am still not recognizing my sinfulness at all.” ―Dietrich Bonhoeffer
