How do you make a record without instruments ? Ask David M Allen because that's precisely what he's done... When whatever studio bunnies were safely tucked up in bed, Dave would sometimes unwind after a hard day's production by messing around with his beloved Lexicon 480L reverb rack. 'In The Past' - named after the machine's 9th patch found in bank 5 & the main reverb preset used all over 'Disintegration' (think 'Plainsong', 'Same Deep Water...', 'Prayers For Rain' etc.) - was made by feeding back the Lexicon's digital signal with Dave pitching & prodding it gently into lush & foreboding soundscapes. The 16 minute track fits neatly in somewhere between Pierre Henry's 'musique concrete', the experimental ambient of Eno & the far reaches of Autechre, Seefeel or Aphex Twin. Hit the link to listen on the streaming service of your choice. An accompanying video for the track put together by Dave himself will also be released shortly & a super limited single-sided laser-etched 12 inch vinyl will be available in the coming months.
