How, what, and where of environmental DNA #eDNA ๐ค Happy to share our newest publication exploring how volume of water processed and the pore size of the filter impacts the diversity of plant and animal communities captured via metabarcoding. 1/n https://t.co/t69KaxSfVu
I am grateful to everyone who contributed to the work, and to the people who took the time to read and engage with it. Here are are links to the papers >>> Environmental DNA: https://t.co/LZBwxrKST9 and >>> WIRES water: https://t.co/3uEiHShGgG
A small piece of happy news: two papers we published in 2024 ended up in the top 10% most-read papers in their respective journals. It's so gratifying to know that our work is having an impact!
These papers are a reminder that science is a collaborative process. Ideas develop when people with different perspectives spend time thinking through them together. A lot of what ended up in these papers came from discussions in the field, lab meetings, and coffee chats.
Most days I do science at the University, and art at home. Sometimes, I get to bring the art with me to the University.
Great 2-day workshop with students from @ETH and @UZH_en . I was amazed to see how naturally everyone was able to pick up watercolor techniques and vision.
In this study, researchers demonstrate that #diatom DNA #metabarcoding can provide consistent freshwater biomonitoring results across labs, emphasising the need for standardised protocols.

Join our session this spring at #EGU25! You have 48 hours to pull together an abstract about your latest research bringing #biology in #hydrology with guest speaker @DNAsaur_ . Tell us about your work with #eDNA#Carbon and #diatoms for hydrological process understanding!

This is my first metabarcoding study that was conceptualized back in 2021, with a small idea and fantastic collaborators. Thanks to Florida @MaggieEHunter and Montana @gordon_luikart groups ! Big thanks to @alpineedna for the mentorship and support over the years! 7/n
