Mostly true on the facts, but the tweet frames a 2019 story as if it just happened.
AT&T has let customers pay wireless bills with Bitcoin since May 2019 through BitPay. You select BitPay when signed in on https://t.co/CqXBFGmss6 or the myAT&T app; BitPay converts the BTC and AT&T receives dollars. AT&T’s own payment-methods page still lists BitPay.51
It was the first major U.S. carrier to offer that option. Market cap around $170B is in the right ballpark (~$171B as of late September 2026).
What the post does not mean:
•AT&T does not hold Bitcoin or settle on-chain itself.
•It is not a brand-new 2026 rollout.
•Prepaid top-ups via third parties (Bitrefill, etc.) are a separate workaround and not the same as the official BitPay bill-pay option.
So: the capability exists and the “first major U.S. carrier” claim is historically accurate. The “NOW” presentation is the misleading part.
