After years in Europe’s Web3 ecosystem, I’m proud to return to Turkey.

🤝🏼 I’ve joined @safebitcom to accelerate adoption and help make it Turkey’s most used and trusted exchange.

So why I backed to Turkey? Turkey could be the biggest #crypto space after US.

📉 Step 1.0: Crises Bring Revolutions

First, in this article, I will explain why Turkey has the potential to develop a large crypto industry capable of competing with China and the United States. Then, I will highlight Turkey’s potential Web3 power.

If we were to ask individuals in traditional financial markets what comes to mind when they think of Turkey, they would most likely mention inflation, economic crises, and its geopolitical position—being close to conflict zones and experiencing significant migration flows. Like any pioneering event, the combination of these factors in Turkey during the COVID-19 period intensified hyperinflation and increased unemployment, leading people to explore Web3 and cryptocurrencies.

Looking at Bitcoin’s rise during the 2008 financial crisis, the monetary expansion policies and economic disruptions during the COVID-19 period contributed to the global proliferation of the crypto industry. In Turkey, the devaluation of the Turkish Lira and the rising risk appetite among the population led people to explore alternative investment instruments. During the 2021 bull season, Turkey reached the largest TVL volume in both Asia and Europe, becoming the country with the highest investment relative to monthly income worldwide.

🎓 Step 2.0: Europe’s Youngest Population

Turkey’s position as the country with the largest young population in Europe, combined with its high social media usage, has made it highly visible in the crypto space. The young population in Turkey is not only active as crypto users but also demonstrates significant developer potential, corresponding with the number of students in higher education.

Blockchain and Web3 courses are becoming increasingly common in universities, while hackathons, bootcamps, and community projects are rapidly nurturing young talent. The academic and technological synergy sparked by pioneering figures like @el33th4xor in the @avax ecosystem also serves as an inspiration for young Turkish developers.

Today, millions of young people in Turkey are actively participating in both investment and community-driven projects. They are developing their own NFT projects, DeFi solutions, and local crypto applications, integrating them with global platforms. The majority of young developer candidates and Web3 potential in Turkey will position the country as a major hub for developers in the near future.

♟️ Step 3.0 Young Population and Economic Crisis: Resulting in a Formidable Competitor

When we consider that a country’s greatest strength lies in its young population, one of the key reasons Turkey is becoming a leading nation is the approach of its universities toward blockchain. Today, many universities have blockchain clubs—for example, @ITUblockchain @isublockchain and @bogazicichain are concrete examples of this adaptation.

The combination of a tech-savvy young population and the pressures brought by economic crises creates a fertile ground for innovation. The synergy of these two factors—large, educated, and motivated youth along with economic necessity—positions Turkey on the path to becoming a global leader in the Web3 ecosystem.

Because of factors like these, I returned to Turkey to pursue a pioneering career. During this process, I will contribute to the development of Web3 in Turkey under the Safebit, and I will do everything I can to make Turkey a leading cryptocurrency exchange.

It's not clear to me that TradFi will prefer "the most decentralized L1" as they move their business onchain.

These institutions aren't in it for decentralization. Their products will likely be centralized in some way anyway. High speed and low cost seem to be their priorities.
