Scientists have rediscovered a long-lost tectonic plate called the "Pontus plate" in the South China Sea, 20 million years after it disappeared. This plate, once a quarter of the size of the Pacific Ocean, was known only from a few rock fragments in Borneo and remnants in Earth's mantle. It was named after the Pontus Ocean under which it existed. Researchers were originally searching for remnants of the Phoenix plate and discovered the Pontus plate when analyzing rock samples from Borneo. Computer models revealed the Pontus plate's existence and its role in the region's geological history, with evidence suggesting it formed over 160 million years ago, shrinking over time and eventually disappearing under the Australian and Chinese plates. Earlier research had hinted at the existence of the Pontus plate based on imaging of the Earth's mantle.

The #49ers are reportedly “very likely” to trade Brandon Aiyuk as the two haven’t been able to come close to terms on a new deal.

The 49ers believe it is to their advantage to wait for draft day to see who is available so that they can ensure they “get their guy” in the draft.

They have begun the process of setting up the terms of what they would need back for Aiyuk for interested teams.
