@CARTAfrica's Academic, Professional, and Administration Staff #APAS Workshop & APAS ToT Workshop, has officially commenced at @Makerere, Kampala. This week-long training will enhance institutional responsiveness to graduate training & research. @aphrc@GichuruJw@RhodaWanyenze
@RhodaWanyenze: Talk about graduate training. You equip the academics, you leave out the registrars, you leave out the people in admissions. They take their time, sometimes they release their letters, they're there before you're supposed to start your program.

#CARTA is hosting a three-day workshop (May 28–30, 2025) at the @aphrc campus in Nairobi, bringing together partner institutions to deepen engagement with its digital curricula and develop strategies for widespread integration into institutional training frameworks.
Launched in September 2023, the digital curricula is a product of collaborative refinement and digitization with #CARTA partners. It is open access, designed to be adapted, adopted, and scaled within and beyond #CARTA’s network.
The digital curricula provide structured, adaptable content across four thematic streams, PhD Training, Supervision, Institutional Support, and Graduate Grant Writing, with downloadable materials and instructional videos accessible both directly and via YouTube.
The workshop also serves as a call to action for universities, research institutions, funders, and researchers to leverage the digital curricula resource to enhance the quality of postgraduate training and support for early-career researchers across Africa.

We need to create an environment where our students can say anything to us that they think works without feeling shy and thinking that you're going to throw it back at them and make them feel uncomfortable in our Universities.

In my teaching, the're moments when I just want to hear what students think before I say anything and I'm always amazed that when they are done with what they want to say about what I wanted to teach them I have very little to add. But I'm also much better than before.
