Ayanle Mohamed Siad, 61, and his sister Deka Mohamed Siad, 69, settled in the Columbus area after their father Siad Barre was overthrown in 1991. Oxford researcher Mohamed Haji Ingiriis told the New York Post the son was Barre’s “right-hand man” and ran daily affairs at Villa Somalia after the dictator was hurt in a crash.

Barre seized Somalia in 1969 and held it 21 years. Historians tie his forces to the 1987-1989 Isaaq campaign in the north, with estimates from 50,000 to 200,000 civilians k*lled and Hargeisa largely destroyed.

Deka and her late husband, former Somali ambassador Abdikarim Ali Omar, ran Vanguard Home Health Care. The Post said the firm collected more than $1.8 million in Medicare before it closed after Omar’s de*th in 2021, and that the paperwork looked legitimate.
