@CharteredABS clear stats from @Rob_MacIntosh showing how UK HE sector is now financially dependent on their business schools, and especially BS’s non-EU international students; but that there are signs of decline starting. Crisis ahead?
@c_d_hewson@PraxisAuril Yes, food writers do, and their reviews are read by people who will never go to the restaurant. As a customer I’m not really bothered if the food is amazing if (a) I can’t get in the door or (b) I have to wait 2 hours for the food or (c) it’s extortionate and badly served.
Talking about the impact of Research without considering KE is like talking about how delicious the food is in a restaurant kitchen without considering how it gets served or how customers get in the door. @PraxisAuril
@AndyFor22064103 I respect your opinion Andy but I’m not making a point about the Mid. East; I’m making an observation as a Whitehall-watcher on what is usual/unusual in SoS/agency interactions. My views on Mid. East are private.
This is really quite an unusually firm/cross letter for a SoS to write to an agency (or 'agency'). Unusual international circumstances certainly, but this letter could be framed differently (and normally would be).
👀 What will the future hold for Spinout companies?
@DavidRussellPrA has shared his latest blog where he assesses what might be in the #Spinouts Review and speculates on how the sector might respond.

@MarkWhi41578058 @blackivyedin@EverydaySexism Yeah, thanks; but I mean, ?????? It was designed, produced, ordered, supplied, bought, screwed onto the wall, walked past, dusted. The manager took it down, but how many people must have been complicit in that public message being there and for how long? Depressing...
Very pleased that the Black Ivy Hotel @blackivyedin in Edinburgh agreed to remove this image from their walls after I complained to the manager @everydaysexism#everydaysexism
@ipryce "If you have real-world industry experience, you already have what it takes to teach in FE". Sure, coz teaching is just telling about what you did, right? What a terrible line. I supported this campaign in theory but this is full-on, brazen deprofessionalisation. Desperate.
@AndyHoltonDJ@martinbright@stevexe42 No experience at all (other than, y-know, voting and flying to Norway.) I get your point. My point is that this assumes that the same people voted Brexit and fly abroad. I'm questioning how many people really do both. I think the Brexit story is Divided Nation not Dim Nation.
@AndyHoltonDJ@martinbright@stevexe42 <10% of the people in the queue. It's a guess obviously - but my point is Brexit voters don't generally fly to Norway, do they? And those who fly to Norway wouldn't generally vote Brexit. (Brexiteers might stop off on a cruise, I suppose....)
@martinbright This is a daft point, though. The overlap between Brits who voted Brexit and Brits who fly to Norway must be pretty small. The 'harmed' didn't choose it and the choosers aren't 'harmed'. We're not one nation; that's the real issue in one shot 😕
@Shivandavis Some say: Boomers are the richest generation the world has ever seen or will ever see again; there is plenty wealth but it is locked up in the hands of those aged 59-78 - it came from their parents, their children, their grandchildren and the rest of the world (plunder of empire)
Very much looking forward to celebrating the best of FE and HE at @QAPrizes celebration event at Lancaster House today. Feel very privileged to be a panel member for the awards of these prestigious prizes.
