@NigelStobbs 90% of kids in WA youth detention had brain impairments. A product of systemic failures in health, education, child protection, disabilities. Populism = let’s lock up kids whose brains don’t work properly. Crack downs have been tried – they don’t work!
@MikeFrancis59 @cassdiva1@normanswan I am a practising paediatrician (for the last 30 years). Regardless of whether Norman is practising he is still on top of his game.
Good-bye Mt Isa. No PhD teaches what I have learned this week. Thank-you to all who welcomed me and enhanced my cultural competence. Still so much to learn... I can’t wait.
#HearOurVoices NOFAS-UK Chief Executive Sandy Butcher spoke today at the Royal Society of Medicine's meeting on Understanding NDPAE/FASD - She urged the professionals to listen to the voices of those with FASD and those supporting them. https://t.co/QCAFE1zRzK
We see this all the time in FASD. Children are frequently judged to be willfully difficult on the assumption of average neurocognitive skills. The truth is they have a neurocognitive impairment, often multiple, and are responding to the chronic anxiety of inflated expectations. https://t.co/7HcuVZj3zS
Teaching #NatCon18 attendees a different way to view challenging behavior. Fact: chronic challenging behaviors are linked w/deficits in areas of neuro-cognitive skills.#KidsDoWellIfTheyCan https://t.co/r6rSb5YjST
Shifting how we provide Paediatric services to young kids on the Gold Coast. Our recently funded innovative service delivery model has been launched. Proud to be part of the ’Early and Quick Specialist Child Development Service’. @DShelt@GC_Health@GCPHN@Griffith_Health
"Invest in prevention, not remediation. Invest in flourishing lives, not in correcting problems after they appear." Comprehensive, early childhood development is key to later success in education and life. Learn more: https://t.co/U5fhzA9EYK
@DrDianneShanley Frequently we find with new FASD diagnoses it shifts the school perception from “won’t” ( willful disobedience) to “can’t” (brain based disability) which then allows a more empathetic approach pitched to the level of the child’s ability and not chronological age.
Oh come on ball tampering has a long recent history with multiple payers (inc RSA) recently sprung. Just fine him, get on with it and confine the rest of the hyperbole to the Centre for Confected Outrage. #sandpapergate
