Tonight was the debut of “Bo’s Barbershop and Books,” a community building initiative I co-organize with a brilliant Amherst College senior named Bo. The project grew out of our realization that there are no barbershops in walking distance to Amherst’s campus that provide afro-hair grooming services.

Each week we transform my office into a free barbershop and bookstore open to the ENTIRE Amherst community. On our first night we already had a line of students waiting! Felt like my barber back in Harlem!
