@memeticsisyphus So I give them lots of "on the spot" assignments that require creative, independent thought, and remind them that they won't be graded, but I will give them feedback so they can do better next time.

@memeticsisyphus I have noticed that some of my students are very uncomfortable (at first) with assignments that are not paint by numbers. They feel a sense of risk, and they haven't discovered that you can, you know, make assumptions, revise assumptions, and learn independently

@DemsProvidence Offline or online, I try to be open and to learn about what would persuade others, rather than trying to persuade them directly. That lays the groundwork to give them information that’s meaningful to them, rather than the information I thought was important.

@DemsProvidence Online, I assume that any ambiguity in what I say could be taken “the wrong way.” When it happens, I don’t take it personally, it’s the nature of a chaotic social media environment. I just course correct and make sure to be clear that I really do care what others think.

@DemsProvidence Much to appreciate! With the new path on the south side of 29 towards PanAm, the neighborhood is safer to walk than ever. I can smoothly meander through woods and meadows, all while 15 minutes by foot from grocery stores and restaurants.

My first bill just passed the Senate! SB332 changes the maximum sentence for class one misdemeanors from 365 to 364 days. This small change will protect thousands of green-card holders and other legal residents from potential deportation.

@tcarpenter216 But, yes, absolutely, let's publish carefully designed studies, even if the results are the opposite of what was predicted! Some papers could have an intro that says, "see preregisteration for justification for our failed predictions" and saves interpretation for the discussion
