A historic coming together of community to acquire the Crenshaw Mall & redevelop it with the principles of community-wealth building. #DowntownCrenshaw
Make no mistake—we were the most qualified bidder for Crenshaw Mall.
We have the financing, experience, and community backing to realize our vision for a healthy and thriving Crenshaw. And yet, our qualifications were constantly thrown into question.

"I want to go out where the big ships float, out on the deep where the great ones are. Should my frail craft prove too slight for those waves that sweep the billows, I'd rather go down in the stirring fight than drowse to death by the sheltered shore."
We are a proud #CooperationCrenshaw partner & collaborator in building a solidarity economy locally! Sun 2/25 join them at their Community Open House at @theumojacenter where they will present their proposal to the community, share all the progress Co-op Crenshaw & seek support.
Wild situation in South LA. Former landlord now deceased was a prominent @BU_Tweets alum, willed South LA apt building portfolio to BU which is now making moves to sell to highest bidder. Current tenants working with local community land trust to submit bid to buy buildings.
Folks this is a big one.
Downtown Crenshaw Rising & Liberty CLT have been working w/tenant leaders to buy 40 units protecting over 100 working class folk from displacement.

At tonight’s special Sankofa Gathering we’ll discuss what we’ve known all along. Now, it’s our job to call it for what it is, demand resignations & demand ending the systemic anti-Black racism that is in the DNA of our city’s most powerful institutions. #ResignNow
Black Lives Matter LA is protesting the racism and classism of Los Angeles City Council members and are preparing to "demand that they all step down from their City Council seats," says Melina Abdullah (@DocMellyMel), co-founder of @BLMLA.
“The tapes have simply brought to the surface anti-Black racism that permeates w/in city gov’t,”Goodmon said. “It is reflected in ur policies. It is reflected in ur budget. It is reflected in ur hiring. It’s no wonder we have a Blk displacement crisis & an attempt @ Blk erasure.”
@hasrra18 Goodmon says this racism is reflected in policies, budget, hiring. no wonder we have the largest unhoused population in the nation, which is disproportionately Black, no wonder there is so much Black displacement
@hasrra18 looks like lots of people and organizations present inside including @DTCrenshaw and @CalOrganize, and people are chanting "not one more day!"
Furthermore, this moment demands a firm review of the city council of Los Angeles’ anti-Blackness, & is a call reparative actions to be put in place immediately.
We are angered and appalled by these racist statements. Nothing short of resignations is acceptable.
And in this moment we are looking in particular at those who consider themselves “allies” of Black people to join in this demand.

The third phase of Crenshaw Subway Coalition work is community-centered development. Development that is for us, by us - the collective. Community-driven. Community-owned. (in some cases we mean that literally: @DTCrenshaw#CrenshawMall)

I have pretty strong mixed emotions a/b the opening of the #CrenshawLAX Line. #KLine
It is in so many ways the product of successful community organizing and demands that I had the pleasure of leading primarily from 2006-2016 @CrenshawSubway@latimes

Be a shame to see something happen to those fine upstanding executives at #DeutscheBank who stole the #CrenshawMall from the community & refused our higher offer with better terms.
Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank are on the verge of collapse.
A thread on the ongoing crisis at DB and CS as per my limited understanding. 🧵
