The soybean market has moved close to three-year highs with the November contract popping up over $1.50 per bushel just over the past six weeks.

There has been a lot of fund buying linked to expectations of large Chinese purchases this season and excellent demand for the co-products, both soybean meal and soybean oil.

Beef imports bring little price relief.

The American Farm Bureau Federation on Thursday called on President Donald Trump to roll back the additional 300,000 metric tons of beef imports authorized by his administration.

The group cited new data showing little change in retail ground beef prices since the lower-tariff imports began entering the United States.

Chinese President Xi is at the White House today. Both leaders will engage in a bilateral meeting at 11:30am.

Wednesday night, both delegations extend the Busan agreement until January. It’s the agreement that froze tariffs for a year and comittted to 12 million mt of soybeans, which has now been achieved.

China currently has a 10% additional tariff on all U.S. goods, including ag products. 

@ASA_Soybeans is calling for the eliminating China’s 10% retaliatory duty on U.S. soybeans, and asked the administration to ensure any future implementation of Section 301 port fees on Chinese ships does not disrupt or diminish U.S. export sales.

U.S. agricultural exports remain heavily concentrated among a handful of established trading partners, but future growth in food and feed demand will increasingly come from developing and middle-income economies, according to a new report.

North Dakota State University economist Shawn Arita, author of the report, points to demographic and market trends that could limit future growth in some established markets.
