I might get in trouble for this, but it’ll be good trouble. I’ve been trying to put my finger on why this Bari Weiss resignation & recent cancel culture whining has annoyed me. I mean there’s so much to be concerned about in the world. 1/
@cavyherd@scalzi ... unless they use "alcohol" in the broader sense of "drink containing alcohol" (from Google dictionary, other dictionaries have similar definitions,) more like liquor or booze. Which, in fact, I believe they do.

You: Pardon me
Me: What
You: You’re standing on my foot
Me: I don’t think so
You: You are
Me: I don’t have a standing on feet bone in my body
You: If you just look—
Me: So now I can’t even stand
You: No it’s just that—
Me: You have to be SO CAREFUL these days where you stand—GOD
@joekornik@qikipedia They stated a fact about a survey that was done. How can you call fact "silly", and how can you just change words in a factual statement?
@Melkeus @brsanga @ChainsawCat19@seewhatsnext Also, I've read and listened to the opinions of much more established persons that share my opinion. And videos of this kind are quite expected if I'm correct and this is indeed a trend; the Internet is powered by clicks after all, not quality (as we are reminded all too often)
@Melkeus @brsanga @ChainsawCat19@seewhatsnext I never claimed that the writing was "objectively" good, I don't even believe that statement holds any meaning. And having a BA does not make all of her artistic criticisms true, that's a logical fallacy called "argument from authority."
@PR_Plays@mgorena@ChainsawCat19 @brsanga @seewhatsnext Just to be clear regarding the "unkillable" characters: just because characters didn't die doesn't make them "unkillable". Rewatch the show, characters don't just die left and right, they die when it makes sense and makes a good story. They never strayed from that.
@PR_Plays@mgorena@ChainsawCat19 @brsanga @seewhatsnext 1) They ran out of books in season 5, and seasons 6-7 where extremely well-received, so that argument is inconsistent. GRRM himself stated that D&D tend to kill more characters than him, and the point is always to be realistic, not gratuitous (killing for killing's sake.)
@PR_Plays@mgorena@ChainsawCat19 @brsanga @seewhatsnext 3) ... And GRRM (and others who spoke with GRRM) confirmed that the ending will be largely the same in the books, with some additional side plots that were not included in the show, and minor changes to the route.
@PR_Plays@mgorena@ChainsawCat19 @brsanga @seewhatsnext 2) There were no "gotcha" moments. Every twist was clearly built up to and well-earned (if you've being paying attention.) And finally, the ending was by no means a "Disney" ending, that's another shallow reduction. ...
@eRumoursCOD@ChainsawCat19 @brsanga @seewhatsnext Huh. You're literally here defending the argument that they deserve hate. That's the exact language ("hate") used to describe the backlash in the tweets you replied to. Too late to back up, buddy. (Also, nice try bringing politics into this.)
@brsanga @ChainsawCat19@seewhatsnext Which is also no coincidence. Shallow criticisms of complex shows tend to spread widely, I've seen it more than once. And with the deteriorating of the subreddit and many breakdowns into "this is why it's bad", most people were exposed to bad analyses. It's just sad.
@brsanga @ChainsawCat19@seewhatsnext Keep telling yourself that you're the gatekeeper of true art if it makes you feel better. But do note that your criticism hinges on popular support, and the main cause of low quality content is... the popularity of low quality content. It's easily digestible.
@eRumoursCOD@ChainsawCat19 @brsanga @seewhatsnext It most definitely didn't take place yet.
"Given that season six onward is based on an outline of what will happen in future novels, the battle, or a different version of it, rather, may serve as the climax of The Winds of Winter."
@eRumoursCOD@ChainsawCat19 @brsanga @seewhatsnext Again, there's not sharing the creative vision of the writers or disliking the result, and there's spreading hate. One is acceptable, the other is not, in my opinion. I've watched shows which I found flawed, but I never felt the urge to spread hate toward the writers online.
