Finally, by providing new information on loyalist paramilitary strategy in relation to infiltration activities this article challenges the dominant conceptualisation of collusion in Northern Ireland as a British ‘top-down’ delegation to Loyalist groups.

Secondly, by developing a theory of militia behaviour based on their interactions with other groups (i.e., insurgents and states), we contribute to existing scholarship on explaining militia behaviour.

Thrilled to share that I’ve officially graduated today with a PhD in Politics from Queen’s University Belfast! A huge thank you to everyone who supported me along the way and those who participated in my research project. Its been an incredible journey.
