My PhD advisor (@scottbowen66) offered expert testimony on Aaron Carter's overdose. A real tragedy. If there's any good to come from this it's that Carter's death shines a spotlight on an otherwise ignored societal epidemiological problem.

This assumption often leads researchers to the erroneous conclusion that they have either proven or disproven a hypothesis. The p-value merely indicates the likelihood of observing the data given that the null hypothesis is true.

This article aptly summarizes my thoughts on NHST--the major thrust being that by reducing p-values to a binary with some threshold, we are giving the false impression that values above or below the threshold are categorically different from one another.

In a year’s timespan, I defended my master’s thesis, wrote and defended my qualifying exam (45 page lit review), proposed my dissertation, and published two manuscripts. Currently, I’m in the thick of collecting my dissertation data. This has been a year of tremendous growth.
