If Cressida wanted something, she took it or intimidated someone out of it.
โI see.โ It was more of an acquiesce than anything.
โWill you walk me back to me and Leilaโs room, father?โ
Cressida would never say it, but Leila tended to be a good judge of character. She was able to get a good read on others before they even opened their mouths, even at her young ageโsomething that her sister lacked.

To let the anger take over you is a weakness. Looking at a situation with a hot head will be of no help. โ
แ It's clear they have slightly different views on this... A long time ago, DIO had an uncontrollable temper.
( She wrapped her arms around her father, embracing him. Once the hug broke, Cressida looked up to him. )
I couldnโt sleep, father. Could you read me something, please?
( Cressidaโs amber eyes, warm like a flickering flame, waited ever so patiently for his response. )
( He kneeled down to her height, letting a warm, loving smile spread out on his lips as he reached out to her, offering a hug to his daughter. )
" Cressida , dear . . Now you know you shouldn ' t be up at this hour . . "
โIt isnโt a weakness.โ Her anger mayโve taken hold, but her tone is flat. โMother says anger is a response to being wronged or witnessing injustice. I think with Leila being scared, ๐ด๐ฉ๐ฆโ๐ด being wronged.โ
โ

แ He can't say he's surprised to know Leila is scared of him. He may be intimidating, and they barely know him so far.
Now, there is no need to stress yourself over such a small thing. Anger is a strong
Her sister notices, hearing her sniffling. She searches inside of the pockets of her dress to pull out a handkerchiefโbrand new and stitched in crimson with Cressidaโs nameโand offers it to her.
Leila, especially of late, puts on a brave face and took more time to warm up to DIO. But it was /her/ who took that first step, even when her mother fretted.
โShe told me sheโs scared of you.โ
โNot her.โ It shot out hotter than she wanted, her brows furrowing. โLeila wants to be someone else and always wants to be somewhere else. Having your head in the clouds is such nonsense.โ
โ

แ โ An actress... โ, he repeated quietly to himself.
แ It's quite a risky choice. He is curious if Leila will stay with this ambitious dream, and if so, how far she would be willing to go to achieve it.
โShe wants to be an actress,โ Cressida states. โTo always play pretend rather than being herself. Itโs foolish, to try and outrun what you really are.โ
A part of her didnโt want to admonish her sister; they were twins, and a part of her felt like it was a reflection of herself. And after all, before their father came into the picture recently, she and her mother were all she had.
Though it was nearly impossible to notice due to the darkness, an eyebrow raised upon hearing her last statement.
แ When thinking about it, DIO is in no place to judge someone for finding their sibling foolish.
โLeila likes to read about Anne of Green Gables, she said she wanted to be like her and would ask mother to braid her hair.โ
Her face twists strangely, as she then flickers her gaze to him again and her gaze has to travel up and /up/.
โSometimes, I think sheโs foolish.โ
โIโve seen the book before, itโs a thick book.โ
Maybe sheโs seen it once or twice at the library, where their mother took her and her sister before they moved into this mansion.
It's hard to pick a favorite... I like Les Miserables a lot, however. โ
แ Even though Cressida is considerably young, DIO didn't make any effort to treat her like a child โ he spoke and answered as he usually would.
แ
โIโm sure mother will remind me,โ she tells him then closing the book shut and tucking it under her arm.
But still, she canโt resistโ
โWhatโs your favorite book?โ
โShe likes to read to us, sheโs done that since we were little,โ the girl recalls, blankly looking at the page once more. There were still so many questions sheโd like to her ask her father, but it didnโt seem like the right time.
He studies her, just as she does.
Her eyes really looked just like his...
แ Dio could hear her heartbeat โ it was even, calm... really unlike her sister.
แ He would prefer believe it's courage and logic rather than foolishness.
แ โ Sometimes, she does. โ
โI will take good care of them.โ She didnโt have it in her to say โthank youโ. โDoes mother borrow some of your books?โ
Cressida cracks open the book, scanning the opening illustration, โI always wondered why she only picked out the books that she did for us.โ
Her fingers trace across the cover, then looking back up to him with those familiar golden eyes. As he suspects, she isnโt in the slightest bit frightened, unlike how her sister acted.
He can't deny he was slightly surprised, yet fascinated seeing she didn't even get scared. In fact, she walks through those dark halls with confidence and courage. How interesting...
It does sound like her. โ, he said in a lighthearted tone.
โ
โI havenโt read it yet,โ she comments innocuously. โMother keeps a few books on our shelvesโAnne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, Sense and SensibilityโIโve read them front to back.โ
Cressida didnโt even stop to think of what book she grabbed, until she looked at the spine: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, bound in a sickly-green color with faded-ornate gold letters.
It was fairly easy to recognize it was Cressida approaching. Quick steps of a small person, and a certain boldness.
