Battery box painting time
The E46 Touring EV is now running, just added an extension to the bottom of the battery box to get up to ~180v minimum where the Leaf Charger cuts off
Currently using 14x VW eGolf battery modules for roughly 23 kWh (for now)

Long time since an update:
Now going with a Lexus IS300h gearbox which is already mounted in.
This frees up a significant amount of engine bay room compared to the leaf and GS450h motor used previously.

Long time without an update on the #evconversion
Going with a leaf motor (160kW from e+ leaf), which is now bolted up to the original manual gearbox
Here’s the HV and LV junction box, with Zombieverter VCU

Looks like I’ll need a this sized hole to fit the Tesla drive unit in. Otherwise I’ll have 5cm ground clearance
Anyone know if there are any repercussions MOT wise for doing so?
After a little bit of angle grinding bits off the subframe, looks entirely possible to mount this Tesla motor to the rear subframe of the E46

It’s here
Tesla SDU rear (Small rear drive unit) with 8k miles.
Bought with HV cable and Driveshafts for £1550
Sized up next to the E46’s subframe, time to shoehorn it in

Rear Subframe out and differential removed
Subframe definitely did a trip to the shot-blaster and a powder coat
Model S Small drive unit seems to fit okay, but I think a model 3 Rear drive unit would be a better fit

More evening Cardboard aided design before I remove the GS450H Gearbox and move towards a tesla drive unit.
10 modules up front, 2 in the fuel tank area, 2 under the boot, so a full 14 modules (75kwh)
This also keeps the weight distribution similar to the original car
Yes, decided I’m going to change my motor now for a Tesla motor, am selling my current GS450H Setup (gearbox, inverter, controller)
This is because I can’t safely fit all 14 Tesla modules that I’d like also means o can balance weight better, expect progress more this month
Been a while since any progress, but have made a front battery box
Reducing to 12/14 Tesla modules as it’s a struggle to practically fit them in
‘Engine’ bay looking good
