Absolutely this - to “build 1.5m new homes” you need town planners. To “fix the NHS” you need advantaged clinical practitioners. “Going for growth” means you need AI and Data Specialists. “Doing more for young people” doesn’t mean closing off L7 apprenticeships to young adults.

After last week's party conference gave us the best idea yet of what the government is planning, @D_Lally has analysed Labour's latest apprenticeship announcements for @Wonkhe.

3) Our level 7 apprentices are also mainly females (65%) and we have a higher proportion of minority ethnic groups and disabled students on these programmes then some of our other types of provision
So L7 apprenticeships are back in the crosshairs today. I have 3 main things to say which all speak to the disproportionate impact of this rhetoric.
I accept this is based on my experience of @sheffhallamuni's apprentices, and may not reflect all providers, however (a thread):
2) I just don't recognise the narrative of 'already well payed, well qualified employees'. These are NHS workers, civil servants and local authority employees. A high number of our L7 apprentices have prior attainment below level 4 and come from the areas of highest deprivation
Great evening at #Oakwell. 3rd time there in a week and 3rd time was a charm.
I’m not back at work till next week but will be utilising bragging rights then

Getting ready to Chair the National Degree Apprenticeship Conference. It's set to be a great day hearing from the vanguard of the sector. The timing couldn't be better, as Apprenticeships become more and more of a wedge issue heading into the general election
We operate in an already regulated market, that data shows performs well - HE is an asset to the UK economy and I hope all political colours look to how they can sure up the contribution of HE and Universities not attack them. 4/4
That just isn't the case. Degree apprenticeships are another mode of University Study and if we want a higher skilled, higher wage economy we will need various pathways and routes. 2/4
Just spoke to Jim Diamond on @LBCNews about the Conservative Apprenticeship announcements last night. Apprenticeships are great but to suggest there are trade offs doesn't make sense. We continue to hear the binary options presented of Apprenticeships or University 1/4
