I was pleased to join His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT in Paris for the signing of the MoUs between the Ogun State Government and DP World on the development of the Ogun State Special Blue Economy Zone and the Gateway Deep Seaport.

These landmark projects represent a major step forward in our efforts to unlock Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy, strengthen port capacity, attract investment and position our country as a competitive hub for regional and global trade.

With an initial investment of over $7 billion projected across the projects, the development of the deep seaport and the 10,000-hectare Special Blue Economy Zone has the potential to create tens of thousands of jobs, expand non-oil exports and catalyse industrial activity across the value chain.

The Gateway Deep Seaport will also help address congestion and capacity constraints along the Lagos port corridor, while providing the draft and infrastructure required to accommodate larger vessels and facilitate more efficient trade.

As a Ministry, we remain committed to providing the maritime-sector leadership, regulatory support and institutional coordination required to translate these agreements into successful projects.

I thank President Tinubu for his commitment to creating a predictable investment environment; commend Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Ogun State Government for their vision, and DP World and all partners for their confidence in Nigeria.

This is another important step towards building a stronger, more competitive and sustainable maritime economy — one that creates opportunities for Nigerians and connects our economy more effectively to Africa and the world.

GSI signed a Contract with M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) today at CHQ, Kolkata for the construction of two state-of-the-art coastal research vessels. The contract was signed by Shri M.N. Shareef, Dy.DG, GSI and Cdr. Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd.), Director (Shipbuilding), GRSE in the august presence of Shri Asit Saha, Director General, GSI and senior officials.
These specialized vessels will significantly enhance GSI’s offshore geoscientific survey capabilities, enabling high-resolution seabed mapping, offshore mineral exploration, and oceanographic studies along India’s vast coastline.
𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐬:
•Cost: Rs. 489.98 crores
•Construction period: 3 years
•Dimension - 64 m (length) x 12 m (Breadth)
•Endurance: 15 days
•Complement: 35 personnel (including 12 scientists)
•Equipped with scientific instruments for geological, geophysical, and oceanographic surveys in India’s territorial waters and contiguous zone.
This strategic initiative marks a major milestone in strengthening India’s offshore geoscience framework. It aligns with the national vision of fostering sustainable development, strengthening India's "Blue Economy" and advancing the spirit of "Atmanirbhar Bharat".
