Our new paper “Conceptual Associations Generate Sensory Predictions”, by Chuyao Yan and with @flodlan, is now out in #JNeurosci@SfNJournals

See the original thread 👇 for a short summary
Do conceptual (semantic) associations result in sensory predictions?
In our recent study, spearheaded by Chuyao Yan, with @flodlan, we attempted to answer this question.
The preprint is now on biorxiv!

And if you are going to #CCN2023@CogCompNeuro, come and visit our poster:
Saturday at 13:00 - 15:00

P-3B.83: What did you expect? Prediction error tuning in sensory cortex
High-level prediction errors in low-level visual cortex?
In a study with @TimKietzmann and @flodlan we asked what kind of surprise drives the upregulated sensory response often reported for surprising compared to expected inputs.
Preprint: https://t.co/sXtyZIaisk
Summary 🧵 below
Mechanistically, our results suggest that high-level predictions may help constrain perceptual interpretations in earlier areas thereby aiding perceptual inference.
Check out the preprint for more interesting results, controls, and a detailed discussion: https://t.co/sXtyZIaisk

Summary 🧵 below
Does this mean that conceptual predictions lead to a pre-activation of all possible visual feature configurations that could make up the expected object category? No, we do not think so! If you’re interested in more details take a look at the preprint!
