Xbox has been self aware about this weakness fwiw. Phil Spencer told me years ago that Microsoft lacks the ability to operate as an entertainment company unlike Nintendo or even Sony with its music/films. it speaks to Xbox's inability to retain and nourish a creative culture.
Shawn Layden took to social media to say that Xbox's recent behavior exhibits "a basic misunderstanding of how the interactive entertainment world moves" https://t.co/syNZhYU6Ti
Somehow many Xbox influencers who received a brand new limited 25th anniversary Series X are holding back with their public criticism of Microsoft. Funny how this goes.
Writing about Xbox, two images came to mind:
1) headshots of Microsoft's "Gaming Leadership Team" circa the Activision Blizzard deal. Half of that team is now gone
2) a collage of studios from that time, many now gone, slashed or on the chopping block

How Things Got So Bad At Xbox | Jason Schreier
“Those three studios that I mentioned are just the beginning. There's going to be more. There are a lot of negotiations going on right now.”
“One more thing is that you might see headlines right now saying, "Hey, Xbox is shutting down X Studio." And while that's kind of true, it's not entirely true because, again, all of these studio heads are in conversations, in negotiations with Xbox at the moment.”
“In some cases, we might see studios spinning off. In some cases, we might see studios trying to find other buyers, like other publishers who might be interested in them. So it's not like nothing has been kind of executed just yet.”
“That is going to happen in a few weeks. So again the full picture is not entirely clear. We will see it happening soon. We will find out more in the next few days and weeks.”

@SynisterVee@PostUp_SOG Crazy to me that ppl expected Xbox games to sell better on PS when they barely sell on Xbox. PS & Nintendo should be the side hustle for Xbox, but their main base should be where most sales come from imo. If they wasn’t trained to not buy games. GP ain’t enuff look at COD.
Billionaire, Tony Robbins explains why most people never build real wealth even when they live in a system full of opportunity.
“So IPhone has ran for 18 - 19 years. If you got an iPhone each time, you spend $22,000 and some change at retail price”
“But if you bought Apple stock, same amount of money on the stock you’d be up $326,000 instead of being out $22,000”
“If you’re going to use an Apple phone then at least own the company”
“What are they making a mistake of? They’re consumers not owners. We’re a consuming society and we train our kids to be consumers as well”
Xbox revealed Ninja Theory’s ‘Senua’ title at their showcase in hopes that investors would be interested in purchasing the studio before they shut it down

Microsoft already planned to shut down or split with Ninja Theory when Senua was announced.
“The thinking was that the promise of a newly announced game would help draw investor interest in the studio”

The crazy thing is even if they start today by time those big blockbuster games come out Asha might not even be here. It’s not like they gonna bust out a Fallout game in two years.
As Asha & Matt reportedly look to double-down on big franchises at Xbox, I'll reiterate my plea for them to let other studios, internal & external, make unique Halo games, like Games Workshop w/Warhammer or Disney w/Star Wars.
Halo shouldn't be dormant for 5+ years at a time.
