Losing Trent Grisham is a pretty big hit. Hopefully he won’t be out long.
Here’s how he’s been performing over the last 30 games:
.306 AVG
.390 OBP
.463 SLG
.853 OPS
33 Hits
15 RBI
Thought Schlittler did a good job today navigating around this lineup. I didn't think the home run was his fault. Got Oktamoto to chase in a 2-strike count against a fourseamer in what's normally a damage free zone...Okamoto put a really good swing on it and the rest was history.

I care less about the 6 hits than the 4 BB's, considering 4 of them were not hard hit (1 of the hardhit being 96 mph) and they were on pitches I thought were competitive. But the 4 BB's were a bit unsettling as the fastball command above the zone + the sinker command in zone (specifically with the fourseamer) wasn't the sharpest.
The cutter was his best pitch today, 38% whiff rate and a reliable offering in the spots he likes to pitch to. The sinker generated a lot of weak contact though I thought there were more than a comfortable amount of pitches not nailing his spots than usual.
He also didn't really change the game plan up in terms of times through the order. He started off using his fourseamer a bunch, wasn't feeling it (38% Zone%), then continued to ride with the sinker/cutter the rest of the game.
To be effective against the Blue Jays as a fastball pitcher like Cam, you have to live and be comfortable pitching to contact. And I think that's what makes Cam so good in spots he needs to escape a jam, is that when he gets guys on base he'll come right at you in zone...and the stuff is so good/deceiving that it's hard to get an A swing off of it even when he's throwing mistake pitches.
The Yankees can really put Toronto behind the 8-ball with a strong weekend.
The Yanks currently lead the Jays by 9.0 games in the East and are -135 to win this series.

Yankees off day thought:
The Yankees typically don't sign players to extensions (especially in-season), but I wonder if they make an exception with Ben Rice before the lockout starts on December 2nd.
Lots of people speculated that part of why guys like PCA, Konnor Griffin and Roman Anthony got extended last offseason is that there will be some kind of grandfathering clause for preexisting contracts if MLB institutes a salary cap (or some other financial restructuring). Essentially, teams have financial incentive to lock guys up before the CBA expires because the way the contracts count against the books could be very different.
The main argument against it for the Yankees is that first base/DH contracts usually don't age great and that Rice is already under contract through his age 31 season since he debuted at 25. But with the way the Yankees talk about him and the way I'm sure their models project he'll hit at Yankee Stadium in the long run, I wonder if it's something they'll consider. You could make a similar argument for Cam Schlittler as well.
While Jazz hasn't exactly shown signs of reverting back to his last year's 30-30, star status self so far, he's shown signs of being a significantly better player since the middle of April/May than he was to start the year.
Here's where he ranks out of all qualified 2B since April 15th:
fWAR: T-3rd (1.4)
wRC+: T-6th (118) *tied with Peraza funnily enough*
ISO: 5th (.179)
OBP: 8th (.337)
HRs: T-2nd (7)
SBs: T-2nd (10)
WPA: 3rd (+0.84)
And here's where he ranks out of all qualified 2B since May 15th:
fWAR: 3rd (0.9)
wRC+: 4th (148)
ISO: 5th (.214)
OBP: 5th (.370)
HRs: T-4th (3)
SBs: 2nd (5)
WPA: 3rd (+0.66)
These will also only go up after today, of course. As I've said before, one of the ways this offense is going to stay afloat without the big man is their 30-30 2B stepping up and becoming a star player again. He adds so much more depth to the lineup when he's who he's supposed to be, gives a legitimate 30 HR bat with speed in the freaking 6 hole.

Ryan Weathers and Carlos Lagrange replacing Paul Blackburn and Ryan Yarbrough in the pen could be lethal.
It already feels like Weathers is slowing down. He was sick last month and lost all that weight. On top of that, he pitched 38 innings last year and 86.2 the year before that. He’s already at 70 this season. Weathers hasn't ever had a full workload in a bit between the majors and minors.
At some point, Max Fried will be back, and since Warren is built up, Weathers seems like the most clear choice to join the pen. Those 79 strikeouts to 20 walks play in there. He and Lagrange can really provide that swing and miss they’re lacking. That and they too can give more than one inning.
Yankees face four righties in their next five games. Zero excuse for Jones/Dominguez to not be getting significantly more run than Volpe. Give me Caballero back at shortstop and let's go up a couple games on the Rays
